Job overview

Lambeth CAMHS are looking to recruit into a new post, a Learning Disability Nurse  to our community CAMHS service to support our Neurodevelopmental Pathway.

  • Experienced and motivated RLDN RMN or RCN with  experience of working with children and young people with Neuro diverse presentations including ASD, LD & ADHD.
  • The Post holder will be a care coordinator and provide therapeutic support for children, young people and their families of the Lambeth CAMHS Neuro-developmental Pathway, which is part of the River team (Tier 3 service)
  • The main team base is located at Mary Sheridan centre Wooden Spoon House SE11  & William Geoffrey house, 35 Black Prince Road,  SE11 6JJ

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • To provide care coordination & therapeutic support for CYP & families in Lambeth CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Pathway.
  • Clinical assessment, treatment, risk assessment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes for neuro-diverse children and young people across the tiers of intervention in CAMHS 
  • Deliver groups to support the wellbeing of CYP and families referred to the service.
  • Opportunity to provide, support, training, consultation and advice for junior team members and/or other clinicians on issues of neurodiversity across the service.
  • To work in close contact with other clinicians in the NDP to further develop and enhance the clinical offer for CYP with  neurodevelopmental conditions across Lambeth.
  • The post holder will sit in the Lambeth CAMHS Community Team (River Team tier 3).

Qualifications and Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Relevant professional training will include: First level nursing qualification/registration RNLD, RMN or RSCN or HV with related CAMHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • MSc Post qualification level qualification associated with child and adolescent mental health e.g. clinical psychology, family therapy, child psychotherapy or equivalent with a strong portfolio of post- registration clinical professional development.
  • Additional training specific to the clinical practice to work with children with ADHD/ASD/LD including evidenced-based behavioural support interventions.
  • Completed practice assessor or practice supervisor training/or equivalent experience of having facilitated student nurse placements

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A good working knowledge of the following: Mental health disorders in children and adolescents.
  • Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the general evidence base for treatment in child and adolescent mental health.
  • Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting: The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • London Child Protection procedures Assessment of risk and management of risk factors and safeguarding.
  • The principles underlying confidentiality and information sharing.
  • The principles of clinical governance and CAMHS practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant research and its application to assessment, treatment and case management of CAMHS disorders.
  • Specialist knowledge of the clinical and practice issues for children with ADHD/ASD/LD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience and ability to function as a practitioner registered nurse or HV , in child and adolescent mental health
  • Experience of working as a case manager, care coordinator or primary nurse in child and adolescent mental health sector
  • Evidence of good practice in child and adolescent mental health assessments, assessments of behaviour and performance, family functioning
  • Evidence of providing CAMHS interventions in group, individual and family work, multidisciplinary work.
  • Evidence of experience of clinical governance and audit and the process of clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of practice and clinical experience working with children with ADHD/ASD/LD
  • Evidence of presenting complex clinical information to a range of client groups, stakeholders and professionals

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work under pressure. Ability to take on new concepts/forward thinking.
  • Good written and verbal presentation skills. Basic IT and data entry skills.
  • Proven ability to be "reflective" in therapeutic practice and adapt practice from this reflection.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management skills
  • Proven ability to engage therapeutically with the client group, using a range of therapeutic interventions
  • Skill in teaching and supporting parents in coping and management strategies.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of organisational skills to deliver targets and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to work within a changing environment
  • Experience of supervising others
  • Skills to adapt therapeutic work for children with neurodiverse presentations

Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to engage therapeutically with the client group, using a range of therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles.
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate
  • Ability to maintain concentration and to remain in restricted positions for long periods during observations, assessments and psychological interventions, and to deal with unexpected interruptions or changes during these.
  • Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma, or with people who engage in severe self-harming or aggressive behaviour
  • Ability to manage verbal aggression and hostility directed at self
  • Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic meetings.
