Job overview

We are currently recruiting a Rehabilitation Assistant to join our inpatient Stroke rehabilitation ward currently  based at Meadow Court, Goodmayes. You will be working as part of our multi-disciplinary therapy team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists and Speech and Language therapists that input into our 12 bedded stroke unit to provide specialist stroke therapy intervention. 

This will include assisting patients to regain as much functional independence as  possible through working on a patient rehabilitation goal approach.

The successful candidate will work under supervision to assist in carrying out rehabilitation programmes and interventions, including  joint  sessions  and carrying out sessions independently as well as running exercise groups.

The team and Trust are fully committed to support development, providing appropriate training, supervision and appraisals. 

The candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic and be able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills when communicating with patients, carers and members of staff.

Essential Criteria for the post include:

  • A good general education/NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Previous experience of working within a care setting
  • Basic IT skills- including the use of Outlook and word programmes
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for organising and prioritising own delegated workload
  • Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide care to patients on our stroke ward by carrying out and monitoring treatment programmes as directed.
  • To work under the indirect supervision of and alongside Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to carry out assessments.
  • To liaise with the MDT, internal and external agencies including voluntary and social services, patients, relatives and carers.
  • To be responsible for competent use and maintenance of all relevant equipment, to report defects in equipment to the lead therapist and follow up
  • To maintain stocks of equipment
  • To assist with non-clinical induction of assistants and students as required.
  • To collate and provide statistical information e.g. patient activity
  • Analyse basic patient information to make informed decisions.
  • Co-ordinate patient appointments.
  • Monitor patient’s progress, taking account of their environment and report back to lead therapist so that clinical interventions can be adjusted accordingly.
  • To be able to make accurate and effective records of activities in relation to the patients.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.  Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.   All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High-Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436).
