Band 7 progression post

West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Job overview

This is a band 7-band 8a progression post. Whilst in post you will be required to develop skills in advanced/specialist assessment, assessment and management of complex risk, leadership, management and supervision in line with guidance in order to progress to the 8a banding. You will be supported to develop these skills and you will be required to evidence your progress through keeping a Development Portfolio which will be reviewed regularly and will need to be signed off as complete before progressing to band 8a.

The post holder will provide specialised CAMHS assessments and therapeutic interventions in addition to risk management work for children and young people with learning disabilities who are presenting with complex mental health problems. The post holder will be responsible for line management and clinical supervision of any trainee or assistant psychologists within their team and support further development and service user participation within the service.

The post would be suited to someone who is passionate about delivering a high quality psychology service to young people and families and working with multidisciplinary and multi-agency colleagues to this goal.

You will receive regular supervision and line management from the Highly Specialist/Principal Clinical Psychologist. There is also a strong network of CAMHS psychologists who work closely together across the trust. There are excellent opportunities for professional development.

Main duties of the job

1.    The post holder will undertake specialist psychological assessments of children, young people and families referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others working with the client, including school staff, other staff of the local authority and other workers in health, social services and the voluntary sector.

2.  The post holder will formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of the emotional, behavioural and/or mental health problems of young people and families, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

3. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
