Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated, highly experienced and passionate Physiotherapist to clinically lead the Surgical and Critical Care Physiotherapy Team at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, working alongside the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist. The post offers rotational experience across Ealing Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital. The post offers a variety of opportunities to participate in our exciting improvement plans and the opportunity to work with complex colorectal patients at Central Middlesex as well as supporting the Regional Hyper-acute Rehabilitation Unit (RHRU).

We are looking for an innovative, patient focused therapist with a passion for the management of patients with critically ill conditions, providing highly skilled respiratory care and complex rehabilitation to Critical Care and the Surgical wards.  You will have a wide range of clinical experience and the leadership qualities needed to inspire and support a team of physiotherapists/ occupational therapists and an integrated therapy assistant to consistently deliver safe, personal and effective care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

To assist in coordinating and developing the physiotherapy service in the Adult Critical Care Unit/Surgical wards at the Northwick Park Hospital and Ealing Hospital. The post holder will play a major and specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment and clinical management of patients across the surgical wards, including PACU involving specialist medicine and surgery specialities, determining the clinical diagnosis, functional deficits and delivering current physiotherapy treatments. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership to a team of qualified staff in the surgical physiotherapy team.

·         Undertake a team leader role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy service

 

·         Service provided to critically ill patients and other medical and surgical patients across the hospital.

 

·         Deputise for Clinical Lead Therapist as required

 

·         Perform advanced assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations and from this formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan which is carried out as an autonomous practitioner

 

·         Be responsible for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision (Supervision takes the form of regular formal training, eductaion, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review)

Essential criteria
  • • Degree / Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • • Health Professions Council Registration
  • • Evidence of relevant post graduate courses / CPD within the specialist area e.g. modular Masters Courses
  • • Minimum of 4 years relevant clinical experience
  • 2 years of experience at Band 6 level in respiratory, covering chronic disease management and ICU.
  • • Evidence of theoretical and practical learning in previous posts leading to highly specialist level within the specialty

  • Previous band 7 experience
  • Previous respiratory experience in paediatrics
  • Involvement in research
