Job overview
The OMFS service is looking to recruit a forward thinking and dynamic Locum consultant Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon based at The London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust with a specialist interest in Head & Neck surgery, to join the existing consultant colleagues.
We have a philosophy of team working across the network, seeking to provide a first class service in a caring and patient orientated environment. Broad based training in all aspects of OMFS is essential. This person will work as a member of the consultant team supporting services across the network and participating in an on call rota.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist the network changes adopted to support the development of the service as a Regional Oral & Maxillofacial Unit of national excellence. You will be expected to deliver clinical, educational, managerial Services of the highest professional standard at
Consultant level to the department.
The successful candidate will work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well-led service for patients, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices with a specialised interest in Head and Neck surgery.
Working for our organisation
The London North West Regional Maxillofacial Unit opened its doors at Northwick Park Hospital in May 2006. This is a Specialist Regional In-Patient Service with dedicated nursing and Critical Care support. In addition there is a prosthodontic and regional orthodontic service.
There is a state of the art maxillofacial and orthodontic laboratory, administrative wing and offices for Oral & Maxillofacial consultants, secretaries and junior doctors.
Outpatients facilities are of the latest designs and have PACs associated oral and facial imaging equipment including X-ray and ultrasound imaging and facilities for nasendoscopy.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
OMFS is encompassed in the Head and Neck Division together with Orthodontics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Audiology, Community Dentistry and Intermediate Minor Oral Surgery.
The clinical team is made up of 10 Consultants who specialise in head and neck cancer, major trauma, skin cancer, orthognathic and TMJ surgery. We have a team of Associate Specialists, Speciality Grade Doctors, Middle Grades and Junior Doctors who support our periphery sites as well as the 1st and 2nd on-call rota.

Qualifications and Registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Medical Council (GMC) and a Dental Qualification eligible for registration with General Dental Council (GDC)
- n the GMC Specialist Register in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion
- Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification eg MD PhD
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate ability to train Speciality Trainees and junior doctors
Training
Essential criteria
- Successful completion of an SAC-approved 5 year minimum training programme in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or equivalent, or within 6 months of completion
- Current holders of an NHS or honorary NHS consultant contract in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of dedicated time to trauma and skin cancer surgery
- ATLS qualified/tutor
