The Pharmacy team at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Royal Free Hospital have an exciting opportunity to start a career path in hospital pharmacy. We are looking for motivated Pharmacy Technicians who are keen to expand their experience and are interested in working in a supportive and forward-thinking department committed to delivering high quality patient care.

The post holder will successfully meet set competencies designed to develop the qualities, skills and knowledge expected to move to a Band 5 level. Length of competency training will be dependent on what qualification/ experience the staff member has achieved already.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The post holder will ensure that patient services and medicines management are delivered in a safe, effective, economic, and timely manner. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation and procedures are carried out in accordance with current legislation and guidelines.

Patient services will include in-patient and ward-based dispensing as well as the management of stock including stock control, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and implementing new processes to improve stock holding within the department.

Medicines Management will include supporting medicines optimisation at ward level. They will support the Pharmacy Technician Specialists in developing and maintaining the medicines management service at ward level. This will include the assessment of patients own drugs, medicines reconciliation, providing original pack dispensing, counselling patients about their medicines and co-ordinating supply of discharge medicines which includes dispensing TTAs on the wards. The post holder will also support the induction and training of a range of staff, including (but not limited to) Pharmacy technicians, Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and Trainee Pharmacists.

The post holder will support training and staff development by acting as a mentor/trainer for apprenticeships, in-house and external training/ accreditation and support the Pharmacy Technician Specialists (Lead Pharmacy Technicians) in each of the rotations.

The Pharmacy Service at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust comprises of Inpatient and Outpatient dispensary services, ward based clinical pharmacy services, Medicines Information, aseptic and non-sterile production services, pharmacy stores & distribution, procurement, and homecare services. We cover a range of clinical specialties including HIV, general medicine, emergency services, surgery, rheumatology, hepatology, anti-coagulation, oncology & haematology, women’s health, paediatrics and infection control.

  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician

  • Accreditation in Training Skills (ATS) qualification / Educational Supervisor / Practice Supervisor or working towards*
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or working towards*
  • Accreditation in Medicines Management (AIMM) qualification / Medicines Optimisation Program (MOP) or working towards*
  • Leadership qualification (Edward Jenner, Mary Seacole, CPPE Leading for change etc.)*

Experience

  • Portfolio demonstrating competence of previous and current pharmacy practice skills, knowledge and CPD.
  • Experience of stock management

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately complete complex routine and non-routine tasks as indicated in the job description*
  • Previous experience of developing Standard Operating Procedures*
  • Previous experience of medicines management at ward level*
  • Medicines Management/ Medicines Optimisation in hospital setting*
  • Post qualification experience of hospital pharmacy*
