An opportunity has arisen for a cancer nurse specialist to join the hepatocellular cancer service  at the Royal Free Hospital. The HCC Cancer CNS is a key worker role.  The CNS addresses patients’ health concerns and works to promote their health and wellbeing.  Using their skills and expertise in cancer care, the CNS provides physical and emotional support to their patients, coordinates their care services, and informs and advises them on clinical and practical issues associated with their illness.  This leads to a more positive outcome for patients.

 

The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.

 

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist will be required:

  • To assist in the provision of professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient with cancer, acting as a resource to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
  • To liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to achieve a seamless specialist service.
  • To ensure that every patient has a plan of care and liaise with other teams to ensure that this is not compromised
  • To lead and contribute to the creation of patient information
  • To provide formal and informal training and education within specialist area
  • To lead and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and policies both internally and externally.
  • To attend the Cancer CNS Community of Practice
  • Support health and wellbeing events and initiatives to support patients to live with their disease
  • Support the wider cancer patient experience projects/ campaign within the Trust
  • Support and implement holistic needs assessment.
  • Lead on the SIRT service and work closely with the SIRT MDT

Experience

  • Significant post registration experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Evidence of experience in conducting quality audits
  • Evidence of skills in managing junior staff
  • Experience of co-mentoring and assessing student nurses on placement
  • Experience of supporting patients through complex pathways

Skills and Attitudes

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Awareness of national and local trends and the wider social /political context of cancer/health care provision
  • Understanding of clinical governance issues and trust policies

  • Ability to work alone and under pressure
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi professional teams.
  • Ability to manage complex situations both clinically and in terms of administration. Presentation Skills (often have to present at MDT)
