An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist to join the Hand Therapy team as a Band 6 Hand Therapist.  We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic therapist with Band 5/6 experience within this field to work within an established and dynamic multidisciplinary team.

The Hand Therapy Service is based across 2 sites, with Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood as the satellite unit. The post holder will be working with Hand Trauma, Elective Hand surgery and Plastic Surgery patients, in the adult and paediatric population.  The post requires a flexible approach to working and cross site cover may be required, with the main base being the Royal Free Hospital.

There is a well-structured professional development programme combining in service training, journal reviews, practical training sessions and supervision.

The post holder will work closely with the Team leads to help run and develop the service. The team is led by a Service lead who works across the whole service.

  • Degree/ graduate diploma or equivalent in Physiotherapy/OT
  • Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a physiotherapist/OT
  • Certificated graduate courses or equivalent in-house training in clinical specialty areas

  • Membership of BAHT special interest group and completing relevant courses
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)or OT

  • Evidence of specialist clinical skills and core Physiotherapy skills
  • Effective clinical reasoning skills
  • Ability to reflect on and appraise own practice
  • Effective verbal communication skills with a range of patients and healthcare professionals regarding complex and sensitive issues.
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Able to manage clinical caseload and prioritise effectively
  • Ability to work effectively within different teams both multi and unidisciplinary
  • Ability to manage own time & meet deadlines
  • Ability to be proactive in service development
  • Ability to critically evaluate current research & apply to own practice
  • Ability to recognise unacceptable behaviour and act on this appropriately

Experience

  • Good understanding of relevant clinical guidelines
  • Broad range of clinical experience at a Band 5 level or above.
  • Experience in Hand Therapy at Band 5 /6 level
  • Motivational Interviewing/ Behaviour Change training (CBT or facilitation skills)
  • Presentations to a range of groups
  • Teaching/training of staff or students
  • Supervision of more junior staff, assistants and/students
  • Active participation in an audit or project work

  • Experience of working in an acute, hospital based setting, including working within an MDT
  • Evidence of CPD
