 We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Dietitian to work across Diabetes and Therapy Services at the Royal Free Hospital.  This is for a permanent contract and provides a great opportunity to gain further experience in a large London teaching hospital working alongside a full time Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, Diabetologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Diabetes Specialist Midwives and a Diabetes Psychologist. 

The successful candidate will lead on dietetic provision within the antenatal diabetes clinic and will share a caseload of patients with type 1 diabetes and complex type 2 diabetes with the full time Diabetes Specialist Dietitian. They will also contribute to Diabetes related research and provide support and advice around diabetes to dietitians working in other clinical areas as well as other members of the MDT.

There will be opportunities to be involved in teaching for all members of the MDT including the medical team. The successful candidate will thrive when working closely as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be keen to develop their skills in service development, audit and research.

  • • Health Care Professions Council – Licence to Practice

  • • Registered Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA)
  • • Membership of BDA specialist group - DSG
  • • Recognised relevant short courses i.e.Type 1 diabetes structured education
  • • Post Graduate training e.g. accredited specialist dietetic course in relevant field
  • • Diploma in advanced dietetic practice or evidence of studying for this.
  • • Clinical Supervisory Course
  • • Teaching qualification e.g. City & Guilds 730/Certificate in Health promotion
  • • Certificate in Management e.g. ILM Introductory Certificate, NVQ 3 / 4
  • • Certificate in Non-medical Prescribing

Experience

  • • Experienced at supervising junior staff/ dietetic students
  • • Post registration experience in working with gestational diabetes and pre-existing diabetes in pregnancy, in the setting of an MDT antenatal service.
  • • Significant post registration experience specific to diabetes and working at an advanced level specific to the delivery of intensive Type 1 group and one-to-one education.
  • • Significant post registration experience of working with complex Type 2 diabetes & associated complications in an MDT setting.
  • • Experience in the interpretation of continual blood glucose monitoring technology.
  • • Evidence of keeping abreast of all the innovations and developments in this area.
  • • Demonstrate evidence based practice

  • • The post holder will be a trained educator (ideally Type I structured education) who have an understanding of educational theory appropriate to the age and needs of the learners, and who is trained and competent to deliver the principles and content of the programme.
  • • Experience of insulin pump technology and hybrid closed loop therapy
