Main duties of the job
Applicants must have previous experience in Optometry, demonstrate that they work well within teams and deliver clinical leadership in Optometry. As well as having excellent communication and prioritisation skills and a commitment to continuing professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide and assist with the development of the Optometric service for patients for the RFL.
JOB SUMMARY:
1. To run and manage the specialist contact lens service at RFL.
2. To work closely with Ophthalmologists the Head of service to deliver streamline pathways within the corneal service to the highest standards of quality and care.
3. To participate in the delivery of certain more complex specialist optometric services that meets the changing needs of the Directorate and other outside agencies.
4. To undertake administrative duties as required by the role undertaken.
5. To participate in clinical audit and research where appropriate.
6. To provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for various disciplines within ophthalmology (ophthalmologists, medical students, ophthalmic nurses, orthoptists, and other health professionals).

- To possess an Orthoptic degree or diploma. Management certificate- Clinical management leadership qualification) Clinical teaching certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- To have at least 5 years’ experience in all aspects of clinical Orthoptics involving specialist services.
- Demonstrate knowledge and clinical skills relevant to Orthoptics and management of services
- Demonstrate management/leadership experience
- To have demonstrated specialist training through CPD

Essential criteria
- To utilise time effectively and assist with the implementation on wider trust objectives.
- To be able to show good working relationships at all levels and to work as part of a multidisciplinary team or independently.
- To be able to work under pressure in a busy environment.
- To be able to consistently communicate effectively with patients and staff at all levels in a professional and respectful manner
- The ability to handle difficult situations calmly and effectively to deal with patients, tactfully, efficiently and with empathy
- To have good presentation skills for formal and informal teaching of undergraduate and post graduates, and audit.
Desirable criteria
- Have knowledge for DoH strategic plans for clinical services for AHPs.
- To have knowledge of research methodology and willing to contribute to research within the department

Essential criteria
- The ability to work between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm in accordance with the clinic rota.
- To be flexible in covering cross sites for the Trust and acceptance of changes to timetables
