Job overview

The post holder based in the sexual health adviser’s office will provide, administrative and clerical support to the health adviser team and the chlamydia screening coordinator , assisting in the management of patients who have been diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections across all HSHS sites and services within City and Hackney. This includes supporting the development and management of information, records, databases, correspondence and reports.

The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring information relevant to the service is disseminated efficiently and in a timely manner to the appropriate agencies.

The post holder will exercise his/her initiative without direct supervision and be able to respond promptly to unexpected events surrounding Health Advising service and be able to respond appropriately to changing priorities.

The post holder will be expected to provide cover across the community and hospital site as determined by service needs.

The post holder will give limited advice re simple sexually transmitted infections and associated issues with support from senior colleague    

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for processing positive results from results reporting in the Preview patient management system identifying patients that will need informing and /or treatment of infection.
  • To ensure diagnosis of infection is accurately coded.
  • To recall patients with an undiagnosed infection who have not signed up for the Mikkom results portal, by phone, text, letter or email in accordance with the recall policy.
  • Be able to differentiate positive and negative results for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea Trichomonas, Mycoplasma HIV and hepatitis. And give these results to patients over the phone (not positive HIV or Hepatitis).
  • Must be aware of the roles limited requirement for giving advice to patients. But give reassurances that any concerns will be addressed during consultations. And or sign– post to agreed relevant NHS websites
  • Be able to follow the Syphilis results and management algorithm and take appropriate steps.
  • To follow-up the partner notification outcomes for people diagnosed with STIs using the SXT tool.
  • To maintain confidentiality of patients at all times.
  • Be able to deal with complaints or distressed callers sensitively and refer promptly to a sexual health adviser.
  • Responsible for processing the monthly not negative list of results to ensure that no results are missed, appropriate action has been taken and clinical coding is accurate and edit if required.
