Job overview

An exciting Opportunity has come up in Redbridge Home Treatment Team / Crisis Care Team. We are seeking   an experienced Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse with NMC registration to work  nights  in our Integrated Crisis and Assessment Hub (ICAH) and Psychiatric Liaison in King George's Hospital.

Though the post is for nights at the moment staff maybe asked to work alternate day and nights in the future. This will be explained in detail later.

The candidate must have extensive experience in assessments of patients in crisis and formulating a plan in line with the assessment outcome.

The candidate will be at the front line of gatekeeping  in ICAH and KGH working nights

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the post:

To ensure that assessments and care plans reflect the psychological, emotional, social care, treatment, intervention and risk management needs appropriate to adults with acute mental health problems.
•To enable others to contribute effectively, acknowledging the nature of and context of their work, sharing and taking account of own and others’ knowledge and skills, and differences in working and professional practice
•To work closely with other disciplines to deliver joined up care.
•To take joint responsibility for teaching and assessing of student nurses and other multi-disciplinary staff who are on placement within the team.
•To actively identify a full range of needs pertaining to equality and diversity issues that may arise for service users.

  • Rotating between ICAH base and local A&E’s as part of the gate keeping responsibility
  • 1. To work as a team during night shifts with other HTT colleagues, Mental Health Direct, 
    Duty Doctor and EDT service.
  •  Ability to respond to crisis assessments on short notices.
  •  To ensure hundred percent gate keeping to acute beds.
  • To ensure excellent working relationship with housing department and other voluntary 
    agencies in the local community.

HTT is a 24hrs service therefore the post holder is required to work week nights,  and weekend nights.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.  Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.   All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High-Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436).

Experience

  • Providing staff supervision and appraisal to qualified and non- professionally aligned staff.
  • Risk assessment and management within a mental health inpatient setting or community setting.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, quickly and effectively, making timely managerial decisions and following through available agreed care pathways.
  • Psychiatric liaison experience
Desirable criteria
  • Managing clinical services.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Thorough knowledge of the 1983 Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Children’s Act, and related legislation, codes of practice and guidance.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principle of equal opportunities in service delivery

Essential criteria
  • To be able to travel efficiently throughout the area
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills especially when handling conflict and change.
  • Ability to cope with highly emotionally stressful situations on a day-to-day basis.
