Band 7 Infant Feeding Lead Barnet

We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual who can use their leadership and communication skills to progress our work towards becoming UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative accredited and continuing quality improvement initiatives in this area.

You will be required to lead on promoting best practice, progressing and maintaining the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative standards, develop a multi-disciplinary education and training programme and provide support for women and expert advice for colleagues on complex feeding issues.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Main duties of the job

·       Lead on the strategic planning, implementation and maintenance of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards across the Borough of Barnet.

·       Work in partnership with key stakeholders to improve the performance indicator of numbers of women breastfeeding at 6-8 weeks, as well as increase the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months and continued breastfeeding thereafter.

·       Act as an expert clinical resource for both staff and parents

·       Manage, deliver and further develop with key partners the training framework in place.

·       Support the development of pathways across the traditional boundaries of acute and community services which evidence integration and partnership working.

·       Coordinate the reporting of breastfeeding prevalence and apply such data to inform service delivery.

·       Work with key partners to ensure a breastfeeding welcome environment within Barnet and Whittington Health, both for families and staff

·       Provide expertise and training on the introduction of solids and the development of healthy eating habits in pre-school children, with key partners.

·       Line manage a team of Infant Feeding support workers

Education / Qualifications

  • Health Visiting Professional Qualification or Midwifery Qualification with entry onto the 3rd part of the NMC Register
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Unicef accredited 2 day Breast Feeding and Relationship building Course

  • UNICEF baby friendly Breast Feeding management course
  • Leadership modules (L6/7)
  • UNICEF trainer of trainers course
  • UNICEF achieving sustainability course
  • IBLC or equivalent experience

Skills & Abilities

  • Willingness to lead and support management of change.
  • Excellent communication skills: IT written and oral.
  • High levels of clinical skills, with the ability to identify, respond to and evaluate health needs, including the delivery of public health programmes.
  • Evidence of application of high levels of knowledge and skills relating to emotional and physical wellbeing from the transition to parent period.
  • Evidence of application of high levels of knowledge and skills relating to infant feeding issues

Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge on how to apply audit and Quality Improvement methodology.
  • Knowledge and skills in managing change at an operational level.
  • Knowledge and skills of co-production.
  • Understanding of the safeguarding process and child protection procedures, clinical governance arrangements and the ability to make decisions in these areas.
  • Ability to manage other members of staff and delegate work appropriately and safely
  • Ability to set personal and team objectives and manage time, priorities and stressful situations
