Job overview
You must either be a registered pharmacy technician or open to being enrolled and working towards to NVQ level 3 training.
Applications are welcome from all sectors of pharmacy practice, including community, primary care, industry and academia however hospital experience is desirable. All eligible candidates will be offered NVQ 3 Pharmacy Technician course and ACPT course once their NVQ level 3 training is complete.
This is a full time post and is not subject to NHS AFC terms and conditions. Informal enquiries about the post are very welcome.
Main duties of the job
Engender a “customer first” culture across the organisation ensuring high standards of professional customer service are delivered at all times within the pharmacy.
Ensure that strong relationships are built with our customers in order to understand their needs to deliver customer satisfaction.
To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary sectors.
Support the Pharmacist to conduct regular customer and stakeholder surveys to measure satisfaction.
Work with the Pharmacist on implementing customer service improvement plans in conjunction with the pharmacy team.
To assist in dealing with customer complaints promptly and efficiently in line with the company complaints procedure.
To provide advice on leading a healthy lifestyle.
To work under the supervision of pharmacist and respond to symptoms described by customers and recommend suitable products and provide advice on their correct use including sale of over-the-counter (OTC) and Pharmacy only medicines. To deliver a high quality and comprehensive medicines counselling service to patients on all aspects of their pharmaceutical care including specialist and unlicensed drugs. To overcome communication barriers through the use of interpreters or other forms of communication.

We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking candidate with experience in pharmacy to join the Royal Free London Pharmacy family. You will need to be organised and well-motivated and have excellent communication and people skills, as well as the ability to adapt quickly to new situations.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Prepare labels using the pharmacy computer system and correctly assemble prescriptions, ensuring each item is accurately dispensed and in the correct packaging, according to standard operating procedures (SOP).
Organise the timely supply of out of stock medication to patients, prioritise and delegate to other pharmacy team members when necessary.
Communicate any delays in supply to the appropriate person.
Counsel patients on the use of their dispensed medications, offering advice and answering any queries.
To provide information and advice to nursing and medical staff on all aspects of drug usage and availability.
Receive deliveries from suppliers and manufacturers.
Check delivery accuracy against paperwork.
Query discrepancies and damaged stock with supplier/senior staff.
Securely store stock into the allocated areas ensuring rotation of stock.
Ensure stock is accurate and perform daily stock counts.
Query stock discrepancies with a senior staff member.
Manage slow moving, expiring/expired or over stock holding
To follow established procedures and maintain all relevant records according to departmental and legal requirements.
Order stock from supplies and manufacturers in accordance with the ordering procedures
To dispense clinical trials, private patient prescriptions and controlled drugs.
To be accountable for own professional actions.
To perform other relevant duties as requested by the senior pharmacy members.
To participate in the Weekend and Bank Holiday service rosters.
To assist the senior technicians in the outpatients dispensary.
Ensuring the hospital formulary is adhered to and to provide advice and offer solutions when non formulary/unlicensed drugs are prescribed.
To provide information and advice to nursing and medical staff on all aspects of drug usage and availability.
To follow established procedures and maintain all relevant records according to departmental and legal requirements.
