Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time (37.5H/week) Band 6 Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse  for Main Outpatients department at Chase Farm Site. 

The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal, organisational, and leadership skills who will act as clinical coordinator for the day-to-day running of the department, alongside the Senior Charge Nurse. You will be required to deputise in the absence of team leader and will demonstrate effective problem-solving skills to help ensure safe and smooth delivery of the outpatient nursing services.

The successful candidate will be liaising with the MDT across all the specialities we support here on site and will be supported by the senior team as they transition into the role. 

They will have opportunities to learn both management and clinical skills in specialities such as Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Rheumatology, Colorectal Surgery, ENT, General Surgery, Trauma & Ortho, Haematology, Neuro, Breast Surgery, Dermatology and many more.

The successful candidate will be expected to work weekdays with 07:30-18:30 shift times, excluding bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.

  To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care.

  To take the lead on delegated responsibilities as defined by the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

  To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.

  In the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ward.

  To manage a delegated group of Band 5 staff ensuring compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements.

  To ensure a positive focused service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and improve patient care.

  To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
  • Proven clinical experience in relevant area
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing
  • Ability to utilise pre registration experience to demonstrate an understanding of the relevant settings.
  • Evidence of skills in managing junior staff

  • General management skills
  • Evidence of experience in conducting audits

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • First level registration
