Main duties of the job

The Employee Relations Team have an exciting vacancy for 2 x ER Specialists to join our team, you will be aligned to support one of our main hospital sites.

You will line manage a Senior ER Advisor and ER Advisor. The key aspects of your role will be fostering positive relationships with the senior management of the Divisions you own. You will be responsible for managing all employee relations cases, and manage your divisional advisors whilst fostering learning.

You will support the effective delivery of a high quality and professional Human Resources service providing focused challenge, advice and guidance to managers in the Trust and ensure effective implementation of, and compliance with, all workforce policies, procedures, workforce practices and standards.

You will oversee all stages of Employee Relations processes, including advising and supporting managers with disciplinary matters, appeal panels and attendance at Employment Tribunals as required.

You will also be expected to confidently and effectively communicate with Trade Union representatives, senior managers and clinicians regarding organisational developments and changes. You will have a strong background in ER but NHS experience is not essential, more important is your drive and enthusiasm with an ability to apply your Employee Relations knowledge and experience to an NHS setting.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • CIPD
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Employee relations experience in a complex, multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse organisation
  • Experience of generating, presenting and delivering complex data/reports.
  • Experience and knowledge of NHS Terms and Conditions of Service including Agenda for Change.
  • Experience of operating effectively in a customer facing environment
  • Up to date knowledge of employment legislation and understanding of the risks of non-compliance
  • Experience of advising managers on highly complex and serious individual and/or collective conflict situations including disciplinary, capability and grievance issues
  • Knowledge and experience of using HR systems
  • Experience of preparing Employment Tribunal information
  • Well-developed understanding and awareness of best-practice employee relations methodologies
  • Experience of working in a multi-unionised environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing a team/supervising others work and setting performance standards and targets
  • Experience of Medical and dental terms and conditions of service and MHPS case management

  • Able to plan and organise the work of themselves and others to ensure targets and outcomes are achieved
