Job overview

 Enfield NHS Talking Therapies provides psychological / psychotherapeutic services to residents with a GP in the borough, over the age of 16. Candidates will be highly competent in working within a socially deprived and multi-cultural setting. Candidates will have had experience in adult mental health and/or primary care. We will ensure you have a committed team to work with including a peer group of CBT therapists and counsellors with the opportunity to help us shape and develop the service as it expands. We will be committed to helping you plan and continue to develop and progress your career, and we offer a wide range of CPD and training opportunities.

This post will report to and be supported by the Senior Psychotherapist/ Step 2 Team Lead.

The post holder will be a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and will be at least one year post qualification. The post holder will have existing training on a nationally recognised post graduate programme to improve knowledge on a range of mental health issues, and in how to provide a range of brief solution focused interventions for adults who are experiencing mild to moderate emotional difficulties, particularly anxiety and depression.

We operate a hybrid working policy. The successful applicant will be asked to work from our base at least 2 days per week and the remainder will be done remotely. 

Main duties of the job

1. Clinical Responsibilities

1.1 Under supervision, to manage a caseload of clients who have mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression referred and assessed by the GP, other professionals or self-referred.

1.2 To support and assist patient referral to other services as appropriate.

1.3 In collaboration with colleagues and under supervision, to provide a range of evidenced based brief interventions using guided self-help methods.

1.4 To ensure that work is patient focused, responsive to need, culturally competent and sensitive.

1.5 To assist in the running of self-help groups, activities and use of self-help material, information and other mental health resources as appropriate.

2. Managerial Responsibilities

2.1 To support general practice staff in their management of patients with mental health needs.

2.2 Provide clinical and line management supervision, which includes reviewing performance, to the step 2 workers according to clinical expertise.

2.3 Screening of new referrals into the service, and following screening to liaise as appropriate with secondary care mental health services and social service departments.

2.4. To assist with recruitment and selection procedures of step 2 staff including trainees.

  • Educated to degree level

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Significant consolidation of post-qualifying experience of working with people with common mental health problems.
  • Working with other agencies statutory and voluntary
  • Experience of working in primary care
Desirable criteria
  • Working in a multicultural setting
  • Experience of supervising others in a therapeutic setting

KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Ability to learn at a post-graduate level
  • Understanding of mental health issues

PERSONAL SKILLS & ABILITES

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills one to one and group situations.
  • Work independently and effectively within a small team.
  • Well organised and willing to learn new computer skills rapidly.
  • Ability to secure health information from relevant health specialists to inform the process of assessment.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous work with computer databases and spreadsheets.
  • Evidence of innovative thinking to meet challenging health needs.
