Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust is responsible for providing mental health services for people of all ages across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, as well as providing some specialist services across the whole of North London and beyond. Since January 2011, the Trust also provides adult and children’s community health services in Enfield, following the transfer of Enfield Community Services from NHS Enfield.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled, approachable and motivated consultant to join the Barnet Enfield and Haringey CAMHS division in a full time post to help in managing the care of young people living requiring assessment and treatment within Enfield CAMHS (Generic/ Neurodevelopmental- 6 PAs) which is based at Bay Tree House, Enfield and Enfield CAMHS Looked after Children (HEART Team) 4 PAs- based at Thomas Hardy House, Enfield). This is an excellent opportunity for a consultant to work within a well-functioning and closely knit multidisciplinary team of committed professionals in CAMHS and Enfield LAC Team. This is an existing Consultant post which has become vacant as the current post holder has moved within the Trust.

 

The person appointed to the post will be encouraged to develop their own interests and pursue research interest in collaboration with the child and adolescent research unit based at University College London CAMHS research unit led by Professor Argyris Stringaris. The Consultants will be encouraged to participate in various QI projects across both services and participate in teaching medical students and psychiatry trainees as well.

·                Assessment of children and young people with a range of difficulties – neurodevelopmental disorders and emotional disorders in looked after children for children and young people 0-18 years.

·                To provide joint work with other members of the multidisciplinary team where psychiatric opinion is needed.

·                To assess newly allocated cases and formulate appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines.

·                To provide consultation to social workers and to the professional networks around children and young people with advice around placement stability and CAMHS work.

Clinical Management

·                To complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work.

·                To support CAMHS HEART Team in screening, sign posting and allocating new referrals.

·                To teach and supervise medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care.

·                To undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team.

Objectives of the post - Enfield CAMHS Generic/Neurodevelopmental Post (6PAs)

 

Clinical Care

 

·                To manage an established caseload many of whom are on medication.

·                Assessment of children and young people with a range of difficulties – neurodevelopmental disorders and emotional disorders in looked after children and young people 0-18 years.

·                To provide joint work with other members of the multidisciplinary team where psychiatric opinion is needed.

·                To assess newly allocated cases and formulate appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines.

·                To provide consultation to social workers, GPs, education and professional networks around children and young people with advice around placement stability and CAMHS work.

·                To provide second cover for the duty daytime crisis rota.

·                To comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g., Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, Safeguarding.

 

Clinical Management

 

·                To complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work.

·                To support CAMHS Access Team in screening, sign posting and allocating new referrals.

·                To teach and supervise medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care.

·                To undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team.

 

Clinical Leadership

 

·                To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.

·                As a senior clinician, to have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of the clinical pathways and priorities of the service.

Qualifications and Eligibility

  • MBBS and additional experience in learning disability or Child & Adolescent Psychiatry leading to CCT/CESR registration.
  • CCT/CESR registration
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Section 12 Approved or able to achieve within three months of appointment.

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
