The Ealing Paediatric Audiology Service is an integral part of the Ealing Service for Children with Additional Needs (ESCAN), part of Ealing Community Partners, which integrates different Health, Education and Social Services for children. The central base of the service is in Ealing Broadway. There is a high level of integration and collaboration between different health, education and social care services.
The Paediatric Audiology department is a Tier 2 service looking for a motivated professional who has excellent interpersonal skills and is able to work with children and their parents in a clinical setting.

The post holder, will be responsible for assessing and diagnosing children with potential hearing loss between an age of 8 months to 18 years old , and will be managing caseload of children over the age of 4 years old and also performing hearing assessments to children and babies with and without complex needs under the supervision of senior audiologists working as a Team.
The post holder will undertake full audiological assessments of children, to include routine as well as complex non-routine cases and informing parents/carers of the outcomes orally and through reports.
They will need to have expert clinical knowledge of all the Audiology battery of tests and to be able to perform them autonomously and skilfully, as well as a desirable experience in Paediatric Audiology
It is essential for the post holder to have:
1-BSc in Audiology or other Nationally recognised qualification in Audiology
2- Registration with AHCS (ex RCCP),
3- The job specifications need to be met by the post holder

The post holder is expected to work under the supervision of the Team Lead, and other Senior Audiologists and as part of a Team, will be expected to work across community sites in the Borough of Ealing if it is necessary according to Service demands . Our main base is in Ealing Broadway but we have two other satellite clinics in different parts of the Borough where we deliver the Service as well.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake full Audiological assessments of older children, to include complex and non-routine cases such as those with multiple disabilities and severe communication difficulties.
- Carry out full history taking and diagnostic test batteries to include otoscopy, pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions and speech discrimination tests.
- Work autonomously and in joint clinical settings with Senior Audiologists.
- Participating in regular peer reviews
- Maintain daily communication with the audiology Team Lead and the wider team.
- Record outcomes into the current data base. Generate reports using our System of database
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with departmental and trust policies. Generate clinical reports for all children seen and sent to relevant specialities/parents.
- Analyse results to determine the next stage of diagnostics required, and to problem solve inconsistent or erroneous findings.
- Generate appropriate referrals to other specialities such as ENT and Tier 3 services.
- Efficiently manage time, prioritise tasks to ensure that service delivery is optimised
- Notifying the Audiology Team Lead if there are any issues with the equipment being used to perform the above duties. To liaise with the administrator about annual calibration procedures for the equipment.
- Identifying any sources of risk while working at community sites and advising audiology team lead.
- Attend 1:1 meeting with line manager as well as Audiology team meetings and peer review meetings.
- Attend the Organisations mandatory training; engage in the appraisal process and clinical supervision.
- Undertake other ad hoc duties as directed by the Audiology Team Leads and Service manager.
- Manage distressed or angry parents/young person sensitively, especially when disclosing test results and management options.
- Provide expert advice to other staff, teacher of hearing impaired, speech therapists health visitors, ENT consultant and others.
- Perform hearing screening in the schools if comes the demand.
- Record outcomes of hearing assessments, generate appropriate referrals to the Tier 2 paediatric audiology service, notify parents/carers of the outcome of the screening programme
- Communicate and liaise with school Head, class teachers and staff in schools when undertaking the screening in school.
- Be aware of and adhere to, all policies, procedures and professional standards

- • BSc in Audiology or BAAT parts I & II or equivalent
- • Certificate of Audiological Competence (or equivalent experience)
- • Registration with RCCP (or working towards registration)
Experience

- • Post qualification experience working in a paediatric and/or adult audiology department.
- • Basic experience in paediatric diagnostic Audiology
- • Knowledge of health service practices and understanding of clinical governance
- • Up to date knowledge of diagnostic testing and current practices
