Theatre Practitioner Recovery Nurse 

Band 5 Full-Time 37.5 per week 

Croydon University Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic, caring and motivated individual to join the Recovery team as a recovery practitioner.

We particular interested in candidates with Recovery experiences, able to demonstrate a commitment to developing yourself, and supporting the various teams. You will act as role model for others, promoting best practice and the delivery of high quality, patient centred care.

Working in Recovery, you will be rotate through in Emergency surgical centre Recovery and Croydon  Elective Centre Recovery, learning to become an expert in the patient care, team leading , and ensure excellent patient care is maintained throughout the patient pathway.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be the part of the clinical team who ensure that clinical care of patients, and others using the services, receive an efficient and quality service.

Within this role you will be expected to work across both the Croydon Elective and Emergency Surgical Centre.

The role and responsibilities will be to:

  • Prepare the clinical area to receive patients in PACU(Recovery)
  • Provide assistance in clinical areas for immediate post-operative care when the need arise.
  • Assist in the positioning and prioritize patient care. 
  • Follow A,B,C,D,E approach while receiving the patient from theatre.
  • Ensure all care is documented on the IT system, and everything is logged accurately on the correct system in accordance with with Trust and departmental policy and procedures.
  • Help control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding:
  • Uniform code
  • Marinating a clean working environment.
  • Decontamination/sterilisation
  • Aseptic technique

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner- registered with NMC or HPC
  • IV Cannulation and phlebotomy
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Evidence to continue A-E assessment in patient care
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • ITU/HDU/ Recovery course.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Up to date clinical knowledge, experience in an acute setting
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in recovery and discharging patients.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
