An exciting posts has arisen to because a Community School staff nurse within the School Health team in Croydon. A full preceptorship and competency based programme is offered and further training opportunities in the first year of your practice will include training in the delivery of  enuresis clinics, the delivery of personal and social health education and complex medical needs.

Main duties of the job

Working in the community with the school aged population and their families. The successful candidate will be flexible and strengths-based in their approach and be able to work in partnership with families and schools.

Community School Staff Nurses  work  under the leadership of a Band 6 Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. The nurse is required to build relationships with  schools and actively engage the school in universal interventions for example the National Child Measurement Programme and targeted interventions, for example, individual health care plans. An important element of the role is to develop health profiles for each school to identify needs which will inform planning of services offered to the schools. The candidate should have a good understanding of child development and an interest in working with children and families.

Applicants need to possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and work well both independently and as part of the team. You will require knowledge of the current public health agenda, in particular the Healthy Child Programme, have a baseline knowledge and experience of safeguarding practice, and meet the requirements of the person specification.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse NMC
Desirable criteria
  • To have a mentoring qualification
  • Experience of working in the community or school nursing team

Knowledge and understanding

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an awareness of current issues and developments in school nursing
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of professional and personal responsibilities and accountability in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of professional practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding children
  • Demonstrate knowledge of national public health priorities

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in primary care / community nursing
  • Previous experience of working with schools and other agencies
