An exciting opportunity has arisen at Croydon Health Services (CHS) for a Band 4 - Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician (1 year fixed term from January 2025) who is forward thinking; enthusiastic and motivated, to join our established experienced and dedicated ward-based and dispensary team.

All band 4 technicians are required to complete our in-house educational, training and development plan, which will equip our staff with the skills, behaviours and knowledge in preparation for future pharmacy career progression.

Applicants should hold Level 3 BTEC / NVQ Pharmacy Services certificate or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician. Ideally, should hold an Accredited Checking Qualification (ACPT) or be willing to work towards. 

 

 

Main duties of the job

1. To work in conjunction with clinical pharmacists and other medicines management technicians to
deliver ward based pharmacy services within a delegated area of responsibility.
2.To support the development and progress of clinical pharmacy services.
3. To contribute to the patient safety agenda and clinical governance through medicines
management.
4. To support the cost effective and efficient medicines management services to wards and patients.
5.To act as a key link between wards and the pharmacy department, integrating within the trusts
multi-disciplinary team.
6. To label, dispense and accuracy check clinically screened prescriptions for both inpatients and for
patients being discharged.
7. To participate in the general running of the department undertaking the full range of duties of a
pharmacy technician.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent post qualification experience in a hospital pharmacy setting
  • Experience of working as a medicines management technician
  • Dispensing experience
  • Previous experience of training / supervision of other staff
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with the general public and demonstrates empathy and sensitivity to patients needs when required
Desirable criteria
  • Primary Care Experience
  • Patient Medication Counselling
  • Conducting / being involved with quality improvement
  • Electronic Prescribing

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of clinical pharmacy and role of a medicines management technician
  • Understanding of a hospital environment
  • Good I.T skills and knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
  • Good understanding of working effectively within a MDT team
  • Good understanding of Medicines Optimisation
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of regulations, legislation and pharmacy standards of conduct
  • Knowledge of cost improvement or other efficiency or savings programmes

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPHC
  • NVQ in Pharmacy Services Level 3 with BTEC or equivalent
  • Evidence of commitment to CPD and maintains an up to date CPD portfolio
  • National accredited Checking Qualification (or working towards)
Desirable criteria
  • National Medicines Management Course or equivalent or evidence of competence
