Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Croydon Health Services (CHS) to support clinical & digital directorates in the delivery of pharmaceutical services, along with supporting the development of the electronic prescribing system (Oracle Cerner) and other pharmacy IT systems.

Under the guidance of your lead directorate pharmacists, you will be introduced to core directorate activities of reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management, to enable your progression to more senior positions in the future. You will be responsible for co-developing pharmacy services and providing pharmacy services in line with the clinical strategy and acting as practice supervisor to junior pharmacists. You will also assist and collaborate with the Informatics Team in promoting and implementing EPMA and other pharmacy IT systems and will learn how to develop, improve and maintain these systems. Furthermore, the role will provide you with the opportunity to be part of service development through projects, audits and education.
Main duties of the job
Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Clinical Services and EPMA
Band 7 (Full-time + EDC)
The post holder will work equally across two areas of responsibility: namely (1) as a specialist clinical pharmacist in a clinical directorate, supporting the Lead Directorate Pharmacist in providing safe and effective clinical services to a defined cohort of patients. (2) As a member of the EPMA (Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration) team in supporting the delivery of the digital objectives.
The post holder will, on occasion, deputise for the Lead Directorate Pharmacist in the delivery of the directorate responsibilities and duties and will assist in providing and maintaining a safe and efficient pharmaceutical service to a cohort of patients in accordance with Trust policies. They will support and supervise less experienced pharmacists on rotation. They will assist with the maintenance, development and implementation of new and existing functionality in the established EPMA system across the Trust. They will support back-end technical processes such as configuration, development and testing of the Trust’s current or future EPMA systems and train and support all staff involved with the EPMA process.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Pharmacy Degree MRPharmS
- Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Candidate must be Registered with GPhC
- Evidence of commitment to CPD and maintains an up to date CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
- MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent.
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Non –medical prescriber
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of pharmacy practice.
- Good working knowledge of National Policy and guidelines (incl NICE guidance) applicable to the different specialties.
- Awareness of current NHS issues including national and local priorities.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of risk management & clinical governance
Desirable criteria
- Familiarity with word- processing, powerpoint and spreadsheet software.
- Understanding of current Medicines Management issues.
- Demonstrates an awareness of interface issues
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience of supervising and training staff.
- Experience of pharmacist co-ordinated discharge medication, patient medication history taking, and one stop dispensing
- Experience of providing medicines information
- Experience of working in an out of hours service
- Solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing)
- Experience in use and knowledge of electronic prescribing & pharmacy stock management systems
Desirable criteria
- Experience in tutoring trainee / diploma Pharmacists
- Experience of conducting / being involved with quality improvement
- Experience of working in Paediatrics and / or with high cost drug
- Experience of drug therapy review, audit projects, evaluation of clinical studies and formulation of guidelines and protocols
- Experience of updating back-office functions of electronic prescribing / inventory management systems
- Experience in manipulating large quantities of data and providing appropriate visualisations for end users
- Experience in using SQL or other reporting language.
- Familiarity with CareFlow (JAC) medicines management system & Oracle Cerner

- Good communication skills – both verbal and written.
- Good organisation and time-management skills with the ability to work to agreed deadlines
