Do you want to be part of our growing team at an exciting time? We now have a vacancy available for a motivated, experienced and enthusiastic paediatric nurses to assist in leading our team in our brand new Children’s Emergency Department. We are a busy department who currently see about 30,000 children per year in a purpose built paediatric area within the Emergency Department.
Main duties of the job
A band 7 post is now available due to expanding emergency paediatric services. We are proud of our purpose built, state of the art Children's Emergency Department which is a dedicated area to see children including two resuscitation bays, a high dependency area, an outside play area, a multi-sensory treatment room and an adolescent area, all finished to a high specification, to provide high quality care to the children of Croydon. We have a well established, friendly team of ED nurses and are supported by a Paediatric ED Practice Educator who is based in the unit.
We are seeking experienced dynamic individuals who can flourish working within a fast paced and demanding environment. You will need sound clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, leadership and the ability to work well in the multidisciplinary team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an amazing team at a time of rapid growth and development.
You will be responsible for leading a team and supporting the Paediatric matron in providing excellent care to the Croydon community. You will have the opportunity to attend a wide range of courses to develop your clinical and leadership skills. You will be encouraged to get involved with service improvement projects, redesign, recruitment and department audits.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse ( child branch)
- Degree / evidence of post graduate learning
- Mentorship or equivalent
- Children Accident and emergency course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- APLS
- HMIMMS
- EPLS/ HMIMMS provider
- Leadership course
- ATLS
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial Paediatric A&E experience with proven experience at Band 6
- Current knowledge of NHS reforms
Desirable criteria
- Specialist knowledge of emergency care
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills
- Extended A&E skills: triage/ streaming, wound closure, POP, phlebotomy
- Presentation both verbal and written
- Able to facilitate learning
- Evidence of managing a team
Desirable criteria
- Ability to provide clinical supervision and safeguarding supervision
- recruitment and interview skills
- evidence of involvement in audits, service improvements
