Job overview

The Lead Nurse Specialist for Colorectal works as a key member of the nurse-led Colorectal service’s team within Croydon Health Services. The advanced specialist / practitioner works with a high degree of independence and autonomy to provide care and treatment to patients within a specific area of expertise or to a defined caseload of patients. The nurse practitioner utilizes advanced clinical judgment and decision making to manage complex clinical situations. The Lead Nurse Specialist(LNS) will lead the Triage assessment straight to test pathway for colorectal cancer and help with the delivery of the cancer waiting time targets.

The LCNS role has been developed in response to changing healthcare provision, with the emphasis on developing expert clinical skills including advanced assessment and diagnostic skills. The LCNS supports the junior medical team and increases the skills of the nursing workforce.

The LNSC will provide expert evidence based advice and clinical expertise within colorectal straight to test (STT) and two week wait pathway, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. The post holder will be the nurse lead for the straight to test pathway, including nurse clinics for vetting of referrals, clinical assessment, determining appropriate diagnostic pathways, and if needed `breaking bad news`.
