Job overview
This is a full time (part time/ job share will be considered) permanent post to ensure the acute Paediatric department at Croydon University Hospital continues to deliver excellent high quality, patient centred, and responsive care. We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic colleague to join our Paediatric Department.
General paediatrics on call (including the level 2 neonatal unit) is a requirement of the post.
A key component of this job is also to develop the paediatric asthma service and applicants with an interest in asthma (ideally having completed Respiratory SPIN module of the RCPCH) are encouraged to apply.
Applications will also be considered from individuals with a CCT (or within 6 months of CCT date at the time of interview) or with a Certificate of Equivalence of Specialist Registration (CESR).

Main duties of the job
To provide paediatric and neonatal care and this includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.
Responsible for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad Neonatal and General Paediatric experience and understanding of Clinical Governance
- Resuscitation of sick infants and children
- Adequate training in Child Safeguarding
Desirable criteria
- APLS and/or NLS instructor status
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCPCH
- ns Registration MB BS or equivalent MRCPCH Inclusion in the specialist register for Paediatrics or equivalent, or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview. Name on Specialist Register on date of taking appointment.
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
- Paediatric respiratory SPIN module or equivalent
Management and leadership
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience in day to day organisation of services in a busy teaching hospital
Desirable criteria
- Formal management training
- Involvement in setting up services and service delivery
