Job overview

Following the recent development and growth of the charity, we are recruiting a second dedicated fundraiser to help strengthen our impact and generate substantial new income. 

Trusts and Foundations form a vital part of our three year fundraising strategy, focusing on specific appeals that make a real difference to patients, staff and local people, as well as supporting the growth of unrestricted income. 

Key responsibilities will include detailed research, writing and submitting proposals for support and improving income for the longer term. The role also involves the delivery of high quality impact reports for funders.

The postholder will play a leading role in maximising income through targeted Trust and Foundations applications, including supporting the successful delivery of the charity’s upcoming dementia appeal due to launch in Summer 2024. 

You will be able to powerfully articulate our charity’s case for support and be a confident and proactive communicator who can convert complex information into compelling, clear information.

The Officer will act as a key point of contact for the charity and will form an important link between the organisation, NHS staff and local people alike, all of whom can help us in achieving our aims.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of securing multiple high value grants from Trusts and Foundations, as well as strong administration and Microsoft Office skills.

 

Main duties of the job

 

·       To develop, prepare and submit funding applications to Trusts and Foundations and to contribute to the achievement of the Fundraising Team’s target to raise both unrestricted and restricted funding, with an initial fundraising aim of £100,000 per annum.

·        To build and maintain relationships with funders to generate long term multi-year grants where possible.

·        To monitor all successful applications managing any stage payments and ensuring that regular reports are submitted to funders.

·        To effectively work in partnership and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop high quality proposals for Trusts and Foundations

·        To tailor and develop a compelling case for support to funders

·        To research and identify projects with the greatest need and potential for funding

·        To influence stakeholders to help prioritise projects for funding

·        To work with partners such as charities on joint applications as appropriate 

·        To be monitor Trusts and Foundations income and pipeline, working with the Charity Accountant and Head of Fundraising to ensure accurate reporting of financial data requests and working with the Finance team to process invoice requests and payments.

·        To create reports to help inform strategic decisions and engagement plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Trusts & Foundations

·       To develop, prepare and submit funding applications to Trusts and Foundations and to contribute to the achievement of the Fundraising Team’s target to raise both unrestricted and restricted funding, with an initial fundraising aim of £100,000 per annum.

·        To build and maintain relationships with funders to generate long term multi-year grants where possible.

·        To ensure that appropriate timetables are put in place to reflect the policies of possible grant funders and that all proposals are consistent with the criteria set.

·        The maintenance of accurate records with details of all trusts, grant making bodies, approaches made, donations and responses noted.

·        To monitor all successful applications managing any stage payments and ensuring that regular reports are submitted to funders.

 

Project Development

 

·        To effectively work in partnership and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop high quality proposals for Trusts and Foundations

·        To tailor and develop a compelling case for support to funders

·        To research and identify projects with the greatest need and potential for funding

·        To influence stakeholders to help prioritise projects for funding

·        To work with partners such as charities on joint applications as appropriate

 

Finance and reporting

 

·        To be responsible for monitoring Trusts and Foundations income and pipeline, working with the Charity Accountant and Head of Fundraising to ensure accurate reporting of financial data requests and working with the Finance team to process invoice requests and payments.

·        To create reports as and when needed that will help inform strategic decisions and engagement plans.

·      Where appropriate, to process Purchase Orders, receipting activity and resolve any discrepancies with the Finance Team

·        To ensure the safe collection, transportation and depositing of donations made on or off site in accordance with standard procedures, including processing cheques, banking donations with the Trust’s cashiers and distributing physical/gift in kind donations to relevant departments

 

Person specification

Essential and desirable

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent diploma
  • Two or more years experience of trusts and/or foundations fundraising
  • Strong presentational experience and communication skills
  • Evidence of successful networking with strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate with people to motivate and inspire support
  • Evidence of developing funding proposals, with budgets, costings and timetables
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, e.g. Word and Excel
  • Confident user of CRM packages to support effective fundraising
  • Exceptional written skills and ability to create compelling content
Desirable criteria
  • Institute of Fundraising qualification
  • Experience of NHS charity fundraising
  • Experience of securing large grants (50,000+) from funders
