Job overview

Come and join us at Croydon University Hospital which is part of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. Applications are invited for 2 highly motivated Cardiac Physiologists specializing in echocardiography to join the Cardiology team working at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital on a rotational basis.

We are a very busy department providing a wide range of investigations both invasive and non-invasive.

A complement of 8 Cardiologists is supported by a team of Cardiac Physiologists, Assistant Practitioners and Physiologist Helpers along with a Clerical Support Team. There are also Specialist Registrars and Nurses in Arrhythmia, Heart failure and Cardiac Rehab.

Adult and paediatric transthoracic echocardiography is regularly performed along with advanced echocardiography including stress echo (exercise and dobutamine), bubble studies and contrast echo.

A full range of non-invasive and invasive procedures are performed within the department and there is also a very well-established Pacemaker, ICD and CRT implant and follow-up service.

These posts provide an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic, experienced Specialist Cardiac Physiologists to deliver and help develop a high quality service. The successful applicants will have BSc. Clinical Physiology, HNC MPPM or equivalent. Full accreditation in echocardiography e.g. BSE or equivalent is essential for the post.

Main duties of the job

To work in co-operation with the Principal Clinical Cardiac Physiologist and Cardiology Imaging Consultant, as part of the team that provides Cardiac Physiology Services to Croydon Health Services NHS Trust in a timely, efficient, high quality, equitable and cost effective manner.

The post holder will be a specialist in the field of echocardiography and be experienced in all other areas of non-invasive cardiac diagnostic testing. He/ she will work closely with the echo team and be qualified to British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) accreditation standard or equivalent.

He/ She will also provide cover in the non-invasive service as appropriate and as the needs of the service dictate. In addition to clinical duties, there will be designated managerial, health and safety and educational responsibilities

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Clinical Physiology, recognized precursor or equivalent qualification
  • Relevant Postgraduate profession related qualifications in echocardiography e.g. British Society of Echocardiography Accreditation or equivalent
  • Immediate or Advanced Life Support
  • Evidence of Continuing professional Development
Desirable criteria
  • Management Qualification
  • MSc Cardiology or equivalent experience
  • Professional Registration

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential criteria
  • Expert knowledge of the clinical background to specialist and highly specialist diagnostic and therapeutic, non-invasive and invasive procedures in Cardiology
  • Specialist in the field of echocardiography

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate relevant experience at specialist or higher level in echocardiography providing reports for echos undertaken
  • Highly specialist practitioner/ expert resource in echocardiography
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • Broad experience and competence maintained in all routine and specialist cardiac procedures e.g. exercise tolerance testing, ambulatory ECG/ BP monitoring, cardiac catheterisation/ PCI
  • Experience of complex echocardiography e.g. paediatric, exercise and dobutamine stress echo, transoesophageal echo, 3D echo
  • Experience of Cardiology database and image archive, Philips CVIS and ISCV
  • Experience of NHS financial processes
  • Management of personnel and associate processes
