Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join RM Medicines as a Pharmacy Receptionist who is passionate about improving the lives of patients with cancer.

 

RM Medicines is a wholly owned subsidiary, created by The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust to provide outpatient pharmacy services, focussed on ensuring efficient and safe supply of medicines to patients.   

 

Individuals recruited to the RM Medicines team will be supported to provide expert care to oncology patients and will benefit from training and the learning experiences of working closely with an institute providing outstanding, leading-edge treatment to cancer patients.

 

This post would suit a candidate with or without pharmacy experience wishing to work in a hospital environment, for which appropriate training will be provided.

 

Note: It is not possible for RM Medicines to provide sponsorship for this role. Right to work in the UK is required.

Main duties of the job

·       Assist the pharmacy team (under the supervision of a pharmacy registered professional) in providing a high-quality service to patients, customers and pharmacy staff

·       To undertake general reception and administration duties including receiving prescriptions, handing out medications, arranging medication delivery and the completion of any administrative tasks.

·       Take part in the management of over-the-counter stock, including ordering and storing of dispensary stock and to actively participate in routine stock checks.

Individuals recruited to the RM Medicines team will be supported with a bespoke induction plan including a BOPA Cancer introductory course, to be able to provide expert care to oncology patients in the Outpatient Pharmacy setting.

  • To receive prescriptions from patients, check their demographic details, check for any allergies and give an estimated waiting time.
  • At sites where applicable to support with the sale of ‘Pharmacy Only’ and General Sale List medicines to patients under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, using appropriate questioning to ensure that the medicines are being used appropriately.
  • To assist with other general reception duties including keeping the reception and waiting area clean and tidy for patients and members of Trust staff.
  • To support patient with the completion of the appropriate exemption form.
  • To hand out prescriptions to nursing staff, when appropriate under the direction of the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
  • To deal courteously with telephone calls from patients, health professionals and any other general enquires or direct them to the appropriate people, take messages when required, and provide a pleasant and helpful point of contact within the department.
  • To refer medication queries raised by patients to the Pharmacist/Pharmacy Technician.
  • To maintain an efficient filing system and archiving for paperwork.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good Standard of education to G.C.S.E level including English & Maths
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services Skills or relevant GPhC accredited Training Programme equivalent to Level 2

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing customer care service

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good time management and organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and other healthcare professionals
