Radiographer

NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

The Royal Marsden has an international reputation for high quality patient care, education and research and its partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research.  The Chelsea Radiotherapy department has four Varian Truebeam linear accelerators, a Cyberknife and a Brachytherapy Suite. We also have a Siemens Confidence CT scanner and utilise multi modality imaging  for planning.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a caring, enthusiastic and highly motivated therapy radiographer to join our team in a Band 6 role.   The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and knowledge in advanced techniques, such as IMRT, VMAT, VIBH and IGRT, and will be trained in delivering specialised Radiotherapy techniques such as SABR and SRS/T as part of their role within the department. This will entail working closely with the Band 7 radiographer to provide an efficient and high-quality service for patients, giving you the opportunity to work at the forefront of radiotherapy development in a forward thinking and technically advance department for the benefit of our patients.

We know how apprehensive people with cancer can be about their treatment. The support, encouragement, and specialised care that radiographers can provide to each patient at this stage of treatment is crucial, and deeply valued as part of our trust. It is therefore expected candidates will have a high level of advanced communication and exceptional patient care skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

1.1.    The post-holder will be responsible for carrying out radiotherapy processes as prescribed, carefully and accurately and assisting in the operational management of a specialist highly complex radiotherapy work base, which may be a treatment unit, a brachytherapy unit, a CT scanner, VS area or a treatment preparation area, and supervising the immediate radiographic team in the absence of a team leader.

1.2.        The post-holder will liaise with medical, physics, nursing, clerical and support staff within the department and throughout the institution. The key working relationships will be with the Senior I radiographers.
