The Blood Sciences department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Healthcare Scientist in POCT. We are currently establishing a new team to manage point of care devices throughout the Trust. This team will provide quality assurance and operational support for the devices in use in all clinical areas and will be working towards providing an ISO accredited POCT service. The team will also include an Associate Practitioner, Clinical Scientist and the full support of the Blood Sciences department. The successful candidate will deliver training, perform audits, investigate issues and support clinical staff with POCT. Further duties would include verification and implementation of new devices and EQA management.
The ideal candidate will have experience both within the laboratory and in a POCT setting including device operation and accreditation to ISO15189. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the quality assurance and delivery of point of care testing at The Royal Marsden.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide support for POCT devices within the Trust in accordance with Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs). The post holder will liaise closely with nursing, clinical engineering and other clinical staff to deliver training, device maintenance and provide quality assurance for tests provided by POCT equipment throughout the Trust. The role will also include managing the verification and introduction of new POCT devices following approval from the POCT Committee.

- Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
- Undertakes routine daily, weekly, monthly and as necessary maintenance and troubleshooting on POCT devices around the Trust, to ensure correct functioning.
- To be fully trained in the use of all POCT equipment and to be able to perform and interpret diagnostic tests within the Healthcare Professions Council Code of Practice.
- To plan and prioritise own work under indirect supervision and be fully aware of service requirements
- Check all samples before processing for identification, status and suitability for diagnostic investigations.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- HCPC Registration
- MSc or higher specialist diploma level or equivocal demonstrable experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of training related to specific area or instrument(s)
- Evidence of post registration study
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in a laboratory role
- Experience in point of care testing as a healthcare scientist
- Experience of MS Excel and MS Word
- Experience of handling day-to-day staffing and technical issues within specialism
Desirable criteria
- Ability to provide excellent approach to customer service
- Ability to perform and analyse audits
- Ability to manage laboratory section and staff daily
- Ability to perform verification of POCT device.
