Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, caring, and creative people to come and join us and work within this newly developed clinical service, the first and only in UK to offer an intervention to reduce/stop cannabis use to young adults with co-morbid psychotic disorders.  The Cannabis Clinic for Patients with Psychosis combines expertise in addiction with experience in working with young adults with psychosis to deliver high quality addictions and recovery care to the diverse service user group that represent the trust catchment area.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent clinical position that also gives the opportunity to be involved in research alongside world leading experts in addiction and psychosis.

The post holder will form part of a team aiming to:

a)       Work closely with the Trust dual diagnosis pathway practitioners to promote aware of the service and coordinate new referrals

b)      Complete the assessment of the patients referred for intervention

c)       Deliver the one to one intervention and participate in the weekly clinical group supervision where all the cases under the care of the service are presented

d)      Take part in the organization and expansion of the weekly PEER group open to the clinical population served by the CCP. The PEER group runs on ZOOM every Tuesday pm.

b) being involved in the further development of the service : a) reaching out to carers and b) collaborating with the smoking cessation team and c) dual diagnosis practitioners working in CAMHS services.

In exchange, you will be working within a highly skilled and knowledgeable multi-disciplinary team who will support you in your development and your ability to deliver the best care you can to our service users while offering you the opportunity to take part in research activities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be involved under senior colleagues supervision in the clinical management of a care package to the young adults with cannabis use and psychotic disorders who use our services, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

In conjunction with senior staff, co-ordinate new referral and join the delivery of care with a person centred healthcare model, learning to use complex clinical decision making where appropriate and responding to changes in presentation/ situation appropriately. To promote shared decision making with patients/relatives/carers, as appropriate, in terms of involvement in all aspects of their care.

To deliver individual and group therapy utilising vocational skills as well as developing skills in using other therapy approaches used in addiction.

To deliver the one to one sessions proving emotional support and stability to ensure effective engagement whilst maintaining professional boundaries.

To maintain regular contact with the referring mental health team to manage risk and promote consistency of care

To collect and collate data/ information effectively for the purpose of audit, research and service performance.

To work in compliance with the Trust’s  Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, including taking all reasonable steps to manage and promote a healthy working and diverse working environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GSCE English and Maths or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within a psychiatric and/or addictions setting

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a mental health setting
  • Experience of using word processing and database use as well as a willingness to improve existing skill base
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an addictions setting
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of potential physical, psycho-social problems among this clinical group and appropriate interventions to address them
  • Understanding of harm reduction, and relapse prevention in relation to substance misuse and planning recovery
  • Effective assessment and engagement skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organise and manage time effectively and work autonomously
  • IT skills in relation to clinical notes and report writing
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working with carers
  • Up to date knowledge of psychiatric disorders including standard treatment offers
  • Knowledge of cannabis use disorders related issues
