We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals to play a vital role in the laboratory by supporting the Clinical Service. This post is to provide support for the Regional Head of Operations in all aspects of financial management, especially with regard to contract and budgeting.
Main duties of the job
The Public Health Laboratory in Birmingham is a UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) microbiology laboratory and is in partnership with University Hospitals Birmingham Trust (UHB). The microbiology partnership provides comprehensive microbiology services and specialist services to Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, Solihull Hospital and general practitioners throughout the area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To facilitate the procurement of all supplies, services and equipment
- To assist the Laboratory Manager and other Senior Managers ensuring best value for money purchases of consumables, equipment and services
- To liaise with suppliers to obtain quotations, resolve issues of supply and issues regarding any price variances
- To provide the laboratory and section managers with reports about stock and expenditure
- To receive goods in compliance with UKHSA Guidelines be responsible for the receipt of all goods to the laboratory within the UKHSA purchasing guidelines
- To be responsible for the stock control and distribution of deliveries to all areas of the laboratory
- To issue stock from laboratory storage areas to all areas of the laboratory in response to internal requisition
- To assist the Laboratory Manager, IT Manager and Trust Medical Engineers Department with asset registry and inventory control and assist in the maintenance of the computer inventory database
- To be responsible for all documentation relating to the purchasing and ordering systems of the laboratory
- To record, monitor and issue goods from stock
- To assist the Laboratory Manager in maintaining a system of stock management

Essential Criteria:
- GCSE Sciences or equivalent
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work to instruction and independently, and to use initiative
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Desirable Criteria:
- GCSE Maths and English
- Educated to NVQ 2 level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience.
- High degree of literacy and numeracy
- Comprehensive skills in the use of at least some of the following: spreadsheets, databases, Excel
