Job overview

We are seeking for a dynamic and passionate person with experience of working in forensic or rehabilitation psychiatry to support the lead clinician, Dr Kooyman to manage a 16 bedded male medium secure rehabilitation ward at River House, Bethlem Royal Hospital. This is a full time permanent specialty doctor position which would be ideal for someone wanting to gain training and experience in forensic psychiatry with a view to moving on to higher training, or alternatively somebody seeking a secure, enjoyable long-term position. No on call responsibilities. Lots of training and teaching opportunities in the field of forensic psychiatry.

Main duties of the job

Full time cover of one 16 bedded male forensic rehabilitation medium secure ward. This includes helping manage the mental and physical healthcare of the patients, assisting in writing reports for CPAs, tribunals, manager's hearings and to the MOJ (applications for leave etc).

Working for our organisation

SLaM recently has undergone reconfiguration around the operational management of services back to Borough based, localised services for adult mental health and older adults’ liaison psychiatry services.  The Lambeth Community Forensic Team is managed within the Croydon borough directorate, along with all other SLAM forensic services. Whilst these services are financially managed within local Boroughs, the CAGs remain in place in this new reconfiguration as part of a new central Quality Centre, leading to design care pathways in line with the evidence base.

The Forensic department includes:

  • Four male medium secure wards at River House, Bethlem Royal Hospital.
  • One female medium secure ward, currently at Bridge House, Lambeth Hospital.
  • One male personality disorder medium secure ward at River House
  • One low secure ward: Chaffinch, Bethlem Royal Hospital
  • Ward in the Community (locked, non-secure ward)  Lambeth Hospital
  • Four community mental health teams (one for each SLAM borough)
  • Criminal justice liaison team.
