Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Facilities Float to work at Bethlem Royal Hospital and various SLaM sites Trust-wide for the Facilities Department, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Working closely with the Facilities Team Leader.

The successful applicant will have good organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

You will communicate with patients, carers, and visitors as well as SLAM staff and health professionals. The post holder will be comfortable with IT and be keen to learn new software packages and processes.

This is a challenging role,  Manning the Main Reception, Monitoring various Alarms and CCTV and if required driving Trust vehicles, delivering post and laundry around the sites,  collection of general, confidential, and clinical waste, also completing small-scale furniture moves

Main duties of the job

To help provide a front of house, fully comprehensive, professional, and courteous Facilities service for the stakeholders of the Site and Community Sites 

As part of the Site’s facilities team, the postholder supports the monitoring of the the delivery of hotel services, waste disposal, and collection and delivery of equipment and clinical items. 

Working for our organisation

The post holder will work  0700-1900, on a 4 on 4 off shift 

This role is primarily aimed at providing a service at Bethlem Royal Hospital  

The Bethlem Royal Hospital is located in West Wickham, the nearest train station is Eden Park (zone 5) with excellent transport links from central London, Croydon, and Bromley including the new super loop route. 

The post holder may be required to travel and work at other sites if necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To collect and deliver post to and from the Trust’s service locations, driving a Trust vehicle.
  • To collect and dispose of clinical and domestic waste from services.
  • To deliver clean and collect soiled linen to wards and departments.
  • To respond to Planet FM requests promptly and prioritise them appropriately, in line with departmental standards.
  • To report defective equipment to immediate line manager, using MS Office Word/Excel.
  • To provide cover for CCTV monitoring as required.
  • Working night shift will involve patrolling grounds in all weather conditions, securing perimeters, Trust buildings and attending any incidents.
  • Attend all intruder alarms whilst maintaining personal safety
  • Liaise with emergency services when required, recording in an occurrence book all incidents.
  • Carry out duties of fire warden

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full, clean manual driving licence without restriction ,
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act
Desirable criteria
  • Fire Warden trained
  • SIA CCTV registered
  • GCSE or Equivalent A-C Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing a range of support functions within a facilities setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS experience in a Mental Health setting

Knowledge/Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Keyboard skills
  • Able to use MS Office applications
