Job overview
To perform comprehensive assessments of and develop treatment plans for adults with diagnosed or suspected ADHD under clinical supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and/or associate specialist.
To initiate and monitor the pharmacological treatment with ADHD medication (as non-medical independent prescriber).
To provide information, education and support for service users and their carers re coping with diagnosis and treatments.
To provide clinical leadership to the Adult ADHD team in the care, treatment, and therapy of the client group, with a clear focus on clinical risk and its management.
To perform regular caseload and waiting list reviews on RiO and provide operational management for the admin team.
To interpret national guidelines and relevant research to inform local practice and procedures to achieve best practice. To maintain own expert status by developing training and improvement projects underpinned by research and legislation. To take part in and facilitate audits relevant to patient care.
Main duties of the job
- Triaging of referrals
- Perform comprehensive assessments of adults with previously diagnosed and suspected ADHD
- Identify and manage risk, comorbid conditions and to signpost appropriately
- Formulate treatment plans.
- Initiate titrate and monitor effects of ADHD medication including physical effects.
- Provide psycho-education about ADHD in adults and co-morbid conditions
- Liaise with GPs, NHS and non-NHS services.

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Qualifications/ Registrations
Essential criteria
- • NMC registration, Registration with a Professional Body
- • Qualification in Non-Medical Independent Prescriber
- • Qualification as Nurse or Mental Health Nurse, Pharmacists, Allied Health Profession
Desirable criteria
- • Degree in biomedical research
Skills/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- • Ability to work within multidisciplinary team autonomously
- • Risk assessment and risk management skills
- • High quality record keeping
- • IT skills (Microsoft Office, RiO, HR software etc.)
Experience/ Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Experience as non-medical prescriber (General Adult, substance use, CAMH)
- • Experience as mental health nurse (General Adult, Substance use, CAMH, LD, Forensic)
- • Experience and knowledge about ADHD in adults
- • Supervision and appraisal of nurses and students
Desirable criteria
- • Experience in biomedical research
- • Experience of working in an adult ADHD service
- • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
- • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
- • Ability to self-manage time and meet agreed deadlines.
