An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical pharmacy technician to lead on the strategy, development, and quality assurance of a clinical pharmacy technician service across all sites of the Royal Free London (RFL) NHS Foundation Trust.

The postholder will lead on the strategy, development, and quality assurance of a clinical pharmacy technician service across all sites at RFL. A key responsibility for this role is to enhance quality standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, such as maintaining Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives. The postholder will also participate in workforce planning initiatives.

They will implement a robust system of competency assessment, clinical supervision, and peer review for all pharmacy clinical technicians across RFL and develop appropriate metrics to assess the quality of clinical pharmacy services and ensure action is taken to address areas for improvement.

The postholder will be the champion for patient centred medicines optimisation, effective risk management, patient safety - clinical governance initiatives and adherence to trust policies & guidelines. They will advise on drug budgets and carry out pharmacy practice research and clinical audit.

As the Principal Pharmacy Technician – Clinical Services, you will act as a role model to manage and support clinical staff in delivering services across the trust.

The postholder will be responsible for the strategic development of a pharmacy clinical technician medicines management service across all sites.  This will include the quality assurance of clinical processes and assist the Lead Pharmacist - Medication Safety & Governance to develop, deliver and evaluate the medication safety programme for the trust in line with objectives set by the Chief Pharmacist.

They will be responsible for the delivery of a responsive, proactive, patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to the wards. This will include the promotion of safe, effective, and cost-effective drug use to facilitate patient admission and enhance continuity of care across the primary/secondary interface. This includes being the team leader of ward-based pharmacy technicians and ensuring that induction, training, and appraisals is being managed.

The postholder is expected to work in an accurate, effective, and efficient manner to support the provision of a high-quality service to patients, trust staff and departments. They will be part of a high performing team that is expected to demonstrate the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust values.   • Foundation degree and/or Management qualification and/or clinical diploma or working towards
  • Educational Supervisor Training course or Assessor A1 qualification or equivalent
  • AIMM, MOP or equivalent relevant experience in the medicines management role
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician
