The post holder will be a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable.
The post holder will support their peers and team leader and be an effective team member whilst working on their own initiative. They will supervise pre-registration students. They will have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting and liaising with other health and social professionals and agencies.
The post holder will work as a member of the Community Learning Disability Team, to provide an efficient, effective and co-ordinated speech and language therapy service.
The post holder will be part of an Adults Integrated service working with Social Care staff, District Nurses, Community Matrons and Community Matrons within the Locality Teams.
The post holder will take a lead role for your clinical area overseeing the whole caseload and providing clinical support for team members.

This post is eligible for the Trust 'Welcome to NELFT' Payment, a lump sum of 10% of agreed basic salary (pro rata if part time and exclusive of HCAS payments) (subject to a minimum of £4,000 and maximum of £10,000) and is open to all new applicants who are successfully appointed. Payment of the incentive is 50% of the lump sum at the end of the probationary period (typically six months) and then 50% at the end of year two. This welcome package is applicable to external candidates only.

1. To assess, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment and management for adults with learning disabilities who also have communication, eating and/or swallowing difficulties, and may also have challenging behavior, providing the service to clients across Redbridge in a community person-centered domiciliary role.
2. To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day today allocation of work.
4. To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
5. To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register
6. To work as part of an integrated community learning disability team which will include contribution to co-ordination of case management across various health and social care disciplines.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High-Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436) pro rata for part time staff.

- Evidence of on-going personal and professional development: leadership courses/training
Experience and Skills

- Minimum of five years post-qualifying experience as SLT including a minimum of three years in learning disability
- Experience of working with adults with a wide range of speech, language and /or communication needs since qualification
- Ability to deliver training internally within the profession and externally to other staff groups, particularly Education.
- Application of standardised Assessments and Outcome measures
- Supervision of students and staff
- Experience of providing training/or making presentations to other professionals
- Experience of assessing swallow function by means of videofluoroscopy
- Experience of developing interventions for dysphagia and monitoring these in the community
- Experience of designing innovative communication tools
- Responsible for a caseload of clients with complex needs
- Risk Assessment and management
- Offering support to carers/families in relation to distressing circumstances
- Working with a range of challenging behaviour
- Safeguarding adults and/or children
