Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist who is looking to build upon their existing skills to Band 6 competency.

The post holder will provide high standard physiotherapy service to adults with learning disabilities including complex health needs in the community for London Borough of Redbridge.

The successful candidate will be part of an integrated community team made up of health and social care professionals within LD and other health disciplines such as district nursing, community rehabilitation and strong joint working partnership with other mainstream health and social care settings both in primary and secondary care levels.

The successful candidate will be offered the best support within MDT and directly from the Clinical Lead for their supervisions and appraisals. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a physiotherapist responsible for patients allocated to them, manage and deliver care through specialist assessments, analysis, risk assessments, physiotherapy care plans (diversified person-centred treatment approaches), demonstration of therapy to clients, families, carers, conducting physiotherapy reviews, supporting LeDER case studies, equipment management and care co-ordination thus being professionally and legally accountable.

Starting with NELFT  

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436) pro rata for part time staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To provide a range of specialised physiotherapy interventions for learning disability service users (18 years of age and above) with complex needs within London Borough of Redbridge.

2.  To work as part of the Community Learning Disability Team delivering high quality physiotherapy care as part of a multi professional service/team within the community.

3. To work with service users, carers, family members, health professionals and other stake holders to maintain best possible care for improving quality of life for individual clients with very complex needs.

4. To provide intensive intervention where appropriate to prevent hospital admissions and maintain service users within their home/community settings.

5. To be responsible for organising and prioritising own and others workload in the day-to-day allocation of work.

6.  To deputise when required in the line manager’s absence and delegate work appropriately to other colleagues.

7.    To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them, particularly moving and handling.

8. To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, assessing, and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.

Person specification

Qualifications & Professional Registrations

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor’s Degree and or Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Professional Registration with UK Health and Care Professions Council
  • Post-graduate training/experience in wheelchair referrals, orthotics, postural management, innovative care, gait analysis, various Orthopaedic, Neurological & Respiratory Conditions, hydrotherapy, communication, working with older people and those having mental health and Learning disability
  • Evidence of on-going CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to learning disability physiotherapy, leadership and management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience as a physiotherapist including experience of working with adults with learning disabilities
  • Application of Standardised/Evidence Based Assessments & Outcome Measures
  • Experience completing Physiotherapy Care Plans & Reviews
  • Working as a MDT team member
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of training & delivering presentations internally and externally to staff groups including students on educational placements
  • Experience & knowledge of Safeguarding adults and/or children

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • To comply with the Trust Manual Handling policy and local therapeutic handling guidance at all times. This includes highly developed therapeutic handling skills, manual techniques and facilitation of movement. To provide expert advice on continuing management to client and members of the multidisciplinary team/ family/ carers

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Conduct assessments of intense concentration to analyse and interpret complex information such as physiotherapy assessments up to 90 minutes duration taking in depth patient history and movement analysis, teaching clinical skills

  • Able to produce well written reports

  • Identify own problems and get involved in the solutions through supervisional support from the line manager
