Job overview
To provide clinical leadership and expertise in the field of Podiatry within the trust and to be an operational lead in the Foot Health Department and Footwear Service. Based at Mile End but expected to travel to patients’ homes and clinical sites in the Tower Hamlets Community area.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will lead the delivery of Podiatry services for patients with wounds.
- Lead on offloading requirements for footwear provision liaising with external orthotist and footwear specialist clinics.
- Be able to conduct gait analysis assessment using scanning equipment (RS Scanner) to reduce the risk of wound recurrence.
- Support the Nail Surgery Lead to those requiring nail surgery within Tower Hamlets CHS.
- The post holder will co-ordinate and promote diabetic foot care in Primary and Secondary Care sites, with responsibility for training and development of health care professionals for the screening of diabetic foot complications.
- The post holder will line manage and support other podiatry clinicians within the service.
- The post holder will have the responsibility of developing clinical standards and protocols of care in line with community and service needs.
- The post holder will support our homelessness project within the borough. Communicating & ensuring data collection and QI methodology is met.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for coordinating clinical trials and incorporating new treatment methods into the management of all aspects of wound care
The post holder will be responsible for delivering and coordinating wound care at Mile End Hospital, liaising and working in collaboration with Specialist Consultants and other Diabetes Specialist professionals within a multidisciplinary environmen
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high quality clinical care to patients in both in-patient and outpatient environments and have regular input into vascular clinics and multidisciplinary ward rounds.
The post holder will be expected to independently assess new patients, developing care programmes for implementation by junior staff according to the department referral and treatment criteria.

Education/ Qualification/ Training
Essential criteria
- BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine
- Registration with the Health Professions Council
- Certificate in local anaesthesia
- Evidence or Portfolio of Post Grad Continued Development
- Up-do date knowledge of clinical issues and recent developments in the profession
- Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice
- Knowledge of COP code of conduct
- Awareness of Equal Opportunities – theory and practice
- Understanding of Clinical Governance -theory and practice
- Knowledge of audit and risk assessment
- Extended knowledge of the management of patients with complex presentations and additional needs
- Knowledge of all relevant service frameworks, guidelines and directives such as NSF, NICE.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post graduate working with a Band 6 or equivalent within NHS.
- Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
- Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot
- Experience of delivering advanced care in a the care of the diabetic foot
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective oral, listening and written communication to encourage patients and carers to adhere to their treatment plans
- Good interpersonal skills to liaise with other disciplines, and staff within the team
- Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments
- Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time and plan and develop the work and training of others
- Presentation skills to deliver Service Promotion, Health Promotion & Education
- Ability to identify and solve problems
- Experience of delivering teaching to undergraduate level and CPD to qualified professionals & peers
