Job overview

To bolster our efforts and continue to provide high quality, patient focussed services, we are seeking a Medical Education Fellow to support the Undergraduate Medical Education team in providing teaching and clinical experience to medical students in their 3rd and 4th years at the University of Lincoln. We are looking for a doctor who is passionate and committed to the development of undergraduate level education and has achieved at least CT3 level competencies in psychiatry.

The role is full-time at 40 hours per week, with the postholder to split their time across the Welton House and Carholme Court sites based in Lincoln.

The main aims of the Fellowship are as follows:

  • To support the development of the Undergraduate Medical Education clinical teaching program.
  • To support innovative developments in Undergraduate Medical Education in psychiatry.
  • To develop medical education skills to teach Medical Students.

Main duties of the job

  • Co-facilitating teaching Undergraduate Medical Students from the University of Lincoln Medical School, alongside the LPFT Undergraduate Teaching Team.
  • Contributing to the development of clinical teaching for Medical Students to meet their Intended Learning Objectives.
  • Reviewing the delivery of the clinical teaching curriculum across clinical areas: working with the LPFT Medical Student Teaching Team to review, analyse and evaluate the existing programme, to improve the quality of the medical teaching programme.
  • Contributing to the quality improvement agenda for clinical teaching across psychiatry clinical areas.  Monitoring/auditing the effectiveness of the teaching programme in terms of educational standards. Contributing to data collection and analysis for audit and research, improving the quality of teaching as a part of academic governance.
  • Contributing to the evaluation of curriculum delivery.
  • Co-facilitating teaching alongside Medical Tutors in a range of different settings, both virtual and face-to-face on a range of teaching modules.
  • Running and developing the Medical Student Training Clinic.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Have evidence of achievement of CT/ST3 competences in psychiatry by time of application or confirmation that these will be achieved by time of appointment. All competencies must be as defined by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ curriculum relating to core psychiatric training.
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the General Medical Council (GMC) at intended start date.
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Additional related qualifications e.g BSc, BA, BMedSci or equivalent (not including intercalated BSc or ‘Honorary’ MA).
  • MRCPsych examination by offer date.

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems.
  • Demonstrates ability in basic skills of history taking, examination (mental and physical) and synthesis of findings.
  • Demonstrates basic psychotherapeutic skills.
  • Have confidence to run the outpatient clinic with distant supervision.

  • Ability to take a leadership role in a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring high quality care and staff morale.
  • Evidence of interest in, and experience of teaching in the UK.
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work.
  • Ability to appraise own performance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
