Job overview

The Recovery College provides opportunities to learn about living well with our mental health and supporting the wellbeing of those around us. Courses are free and available to anyone aged 16+ who feels they would benefit from learning with those who have personal lived experiences and professional expertise of the topic. The College provides both in-reach within LPFT & existing services as well as outreach into community settings.

Are you passionate about teaching others, supporting people to learn,  (re)discover their potential and build on existing resources?

Can you appropriately share your experiences of mental health challenges in a way that helps others with their wellbeing & mental health?

The Peer Trainer role is integral to the College & the successful candidate will be able to use an educational approach to support others to learn about mental health & wellbeing.

This is a varied & dynamic role and we are looking for someone who thrives on being able to get involved with a variety of different areas of work and take the lead where appropriate. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic & able to work effectively both autonomously & as part of a team.

The successful candidate will lead on the co-production and delivery of courses specifically for carers and become a carers champion

Main duties of the job

Co-facilitate (teach) Recovery College courses, and lead on those for Carers

Be involved in the creation of the Colleges digital offer

Co-produce (design and create with others) Recovery College courses, and lead on those for Carers, having lived experience of being a carer or working alongside carers would be desirable.

Skilfully use own personal lived experience of mental health challenges to help students learn and make positive, meaningful changes to support their mental health

Promote the Recovery College

Support people to discuss mental health, raise awareness and reduce stigma

Be involved in quality assurance processes and course review

Role model personal recovery and work in a recovery focused, strengths based way.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 4 qualification in health or social care or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through any combination of alternative study, employment, or voluntary work.
  • Training and facilitation qualification and / or a willingness to achieve CET level 4 or equivalent within 9-12 months in post
Desirable criteria
  • Mental Health related qualification (MHFA)

Experience

  • Lived experience of own mental health challenges
  • Teaching / facilitation experience
  • Experience of creating teaching and learning materials
  • Experience of delivering sessions to a wide variety of people with differing learning needs
  • Experience of partnership working skills in establishing effective relationships
  • Experience of work interacting with the public
  • Experience of working as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Lived experience of mental health services
  • Experience of using the Recovery College
  • Experience of supporting people with a range of needs to meet their recovery goals
  • Experience of co-production
