We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and organised individual who would relish the opportunity to join the Grantham Core CAMHS Team within LPFT as a Senior Assistant Psychologist. 

We are looking for a minimum requirement of an Honours degree in psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society and experience of working psychologically with Children and Young People since graduating with a Psychology Degree. 

It is important that you have a full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle as travel within Lincolnshire may be required.

Professional and clinical supervision will be provided by a Clinical Psychologist within CAMHS and line management supervision will be overseen by a CAMHS Team Coordinator.

 All the psychologists within LPFT CAMHS work closely with the Mid Trent Doctorate Course for Clinical Psychology, (based at Nottingham and Lincoln Universities) .

Main duties of the job

You will offer psychologically informed intervention within Grantham Core CAMHS Team and will need to be able to travel within this large rural part of the county. 

Main areas of work will include providing initial CAMHS assessments, providing evidence based mental health and psychology interventions – individual and group based and assisting with service evaluation and research activities as required to support the service with ongoing review of best practice

You will need to have experience of working in a CAMHS setting and will need to evidence that they can work under pressure and provide an engaging and meaningful psychology and mental health service to children and young people and their parents/carers who are assessed as having significant mental health concerns.

LPFT CAMHS is a specialist multi disciplinary service which offers assessment and therapeutic interventions to children and young people who present with complex mental health problems as well as to children and young people who have been victims of trauma; who present with attachment difficulties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist:-

  • To provide a high standard of psychology assessment and intervention to children and young people and their families referred to LPFT CAMHS LD where the presenting difficulties and concerns can be managed as a psychologically based intervention.
  • To develop and provide a range of psychology assessments and interventions either as the sole clinician or in conjunction with other CAMHS LD colleagues; with other staff and agencies responsible for providing services to children and young people and their carers and families.
  • To act as case coordinator/lead professional.
  • To develop and provide a range of psychology assessments and interventions to vulnerable children and young people including children and young people who have moderate to profound Learning Learning Disabilities; Looked After Children; children who are at risk of contact with, or who have contact with, the Youth Justice Service.
  • To provide psychology assessments and therapeutic interventions to children and young people who have been the victims of sexual abuse.
  • To contribute to developmental assessments, including cognitive and adaptive functioning assessments, to help understand underlying learning difficulties which may be impacting on a child’s / young person’s presentation at home and at school.
  • To provide group interventions as well as individual and carer focused interventions, assisting with the planning and delivery of group interventions.
  • Work collaboratively and promote effective working relationships with members of the multi disciplinary team, ensuring effective clinical decision-making, internally and with external agencies.
  • Empower children and young people and their families/carers to influence and use available services, information and skills and act as an advocate where appropriate.
  • Work within defined waiting times.
  • Participate in screening of referrals for appropriateness and onward signposting / referral as appropriate.
  • Work in accordance with relevant childcare, health legislation and professional standards in partnership with wider children's services and to engage with safeguarding, single assessment and other processes which require working together with other agencies.
  • Proactively involve young people and families in service development including using service questionnaires to obtain structured feedback.
  • Provide a professional, non stigmatizing service to children and families.
  • Work closely with other colleagues within the service to enable effective transitions to and from other areas.
  • Ensure best practice by incorporating NICE guidance and meeting healthcare standards.
  • Adhere to Trust Policies in consideration of Children in Need and safeguarding issues and in maintaining accurate and effective written records.
  • Use outcome measures to evidence effectiveness of treatments provided.
  • Chair both clinical and non clinical meetings as required.
  • Participate in management and clinical supervision.
  • To be able to travel independently and work flexibly.
  • Manage caseload and service delivery in accordance with and in order to contribute towards the attainment of the Service  Trust productivity requirements, including waiting times.
  • Participate in all clinical governance and audit developments including post registration education, training and continuing professional development.

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of current local and national strategies concerning CAMHS, Childrens Services and mental health
  • Good understanding of child and adolescent development
  • Ability to work both as a member of a multi disciplinary team and autonomously.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles.
  • Highly developed communication skills and writing skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Risk management of young people in crisis

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate experience of working with Children and Young People Services and / or with individuals with an Intellectual Disability and a Mental Health / Psychological well being need.
  • Demonstrate experience of working as an assistant psychologist with children and young people from school age to school leaving age.
  • Demonstrate experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities and special needs from mild to extensive difficulties including intellectual disability.
  • Demonstrate experience of working with children who have experienced abuse – physical, sexual, emotional
  • Demonstrate experience of providing psychology advice to parents and carers on a group basis and on an individual basis; via the telephone; via video.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience of child protection and safeguarding issues and procedures.
  • Demonstrate experience of completing clinical risk assessments and managing risk
  • Demonstrate experience of working within multi-disciplinary settings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in CAMHS since graduating with a Psychology degree.
  • Demonstrate experience of carrying out psychology informed assessments within a CAMHS setting
  • Demonstrate experience of providing evidence based mental health assessments and interventions to children, young people and their parents / carers in a CAMHS setting.
  • Demonstrate experience of providing group and individual interventions in a CAMHS setting, both face to face and via video and / or telephone
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency setting.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Honours Degree in Psychology accredited by the BPS
  • • Additional training specific to assessing and/or working therapeutically with children and young people and their parents / carers.
