University Hospitals of Leicester are recruiting Band 5 Operating Department Practitioners within our theatres! This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of our 3 hospitals which include Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital or Glenfield Hospital.
Within the trust we deliver a range of surgical specialties such as Trauma, elective Orthopaedics, Urology, gynaecology, Paediatrics, Max Fax, ENT, Plastics, Emergencies, Cardiac, Thoracic, Breast, Hepatobiliary and a state of the art Vascular Hybrid Theatre on this site, this is the start of a fantastic career in specialist areas!
There is excellent scope for learning and advancement within our theatres and we have our own dedicated Education Team and on the ground clinical skills supervisors, to help you develop and progress in your career.
Experience in Theatres or Anaesthetics is an advantage but not essential and we welcome applications from student ODP’s and those returning to practice.
Main duties of the job
-
To co-ordinate and provide skilled clinical practise (without direct supervision) to patients, in accordance with responsibilities under NMC/HCPC Code of Conduct.

To contribute to the continued development of Nurses/Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), including the supervision of junior nurses/ODPs and support staff.

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based clinical care to a group of patients.

Assist and contribute to the management and organisation of a theatre or unit

Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing/ODP care.

Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

Act as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.

Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Make a referral to another practitioner when it is in the best interests of somebody in your care

Act without delay if you believe those in your care, you, a colleague or anybody else may be at risk

Confirm that the outcome of any delegated task meets required standards

Make sure that everybody for whom you are responsible is supervised and supported

Deal with problems and complaints constructively and not allow a complaint to prejudice the care your provide to somebody

Deliver care based on the best available evidence or best practice

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse, qualified ODP or student ODP
- Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training
Desirable criteria
- In possession or or willingness to work towards recognised NMC/HCPC teaching qualification
- Experience in the speciality applied for
- Evidence of post registration continuing professional development or reflective portfolio
Communication and Relationship Skills

- Good verbal and written communication skills
