Job overview

The Respiratory Unit at Glenfield Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated (ST5 registrar/post-CCT) respiratory registrar/fellow to develop advanced skills in Interventional Respiratory Techniques/Pleural Disease. The post holder will help with general respiratory ward duties on our pleural-themed ward alongside the interventional work. The post is ideally suited to a senior trainee (ST5) who wishes to add further specialist clinical, management and potentially research skills to their portfolio prior to taking up a definitive Consultant post with an interest in Pleural Disease/Intervention/Lung Cancer but equally registrars in training who wish increase their repertoire of procedural skills whilst consolidating their respiratory training.

Main duties of the job

This post will be focussed on all the elements involved in the management of patients with pleural disease and lung cancer combined with some general respiratory service duties. It will offer a respiratory physician the unique opportunity of developing and consolidating endobronchial skills with other pleural and minimally invasive thoracic techniques.

The post holder will be expected to be involved with:

  • Leading Pleural Triage/MDT
  • Run the Pleural Clinic
  • Core Procedures
  • Additional procedures
  • Pleural consult service
  • Work with pleural nurse specialists (PNS)

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, 'Leading in healthcare, trusted in communities' was developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners and is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
