An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff nurse to join our Pre-Assessment team based in The Coleman Centre at Leicester General Hospital
This is an exciting opportunity for exceptional registered nurses to gain knowledge, skills and experience in the pre-assessment of surgical, and urology patients.
The Coleman Centre is the nurse led pre-assessment unit for Cancer, Haematology, Urology, Gastro Intestinal & General surgery (CHUGGS); our aim is to provide a holistic pre-assessment for our patients to ensure they are fully optimised for their procedure. You will have an excellent knowledge base and understanding of the importance of the pre-assessment role.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidence-based nursing care for a group of patients.
Assist in and contribute to the management and organisation of a ward/clinical area.
Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.
Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
Collect, collate and fully accurately report patient information, maintaining accurate, complete and contemporaneous nursing records.
Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families
Act as a clinical and professional role model, mentoring, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are looking for nurses who are enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are committed to providing high quality care. You will be fully supported by the team and receive appropriate orientation and training to fulfil the role.
You will need to be flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the service and will also have the opportunity to work in the exciting new Elective Hub opening on the LGH site 2023/4
You will work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure needs are met in relation to care input, support for ongoing care needs and safe.
Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives.
Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency.
Co-ordinate, organise and prioritise the work of the nursing team on a day-to-day.
Supervise others and participate in their education and Where appropriate, act as a mentor/expert witness.
Responsible for the effective and efficient use of clinical, physical and financial
Adhere to Trust policies, procedures and clinical guidelines and ensure compliance of others.
Promote and practice the highest standards of prevention and control of infection at all times.

Essential criteria
- RN with current NMC PIN
- Experienced nurse band 5 or above
- Evidence of on going professional & personal development

- Degree in Health related subject
