An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as a Band 7 PICU Clinical Educator. If you have a passion for clinical education and practice development and have a desire to shape and develop our workforce, then this is your ideal role.
We welcome applications from motivated and dedicated PICU Nurses with a passion for education and training and a broad range of clinical skills, knowledge and experience within Paediatric Congenital Heart Surgery and Paediatric Critical Care. You must be prepared to embrace and develop our workforce as a credible educational practitioner and resource and engage our teams in promoting learning and change within the clinical environment.
You will be responsible for facilitating the education, clinical skills and on-going professional development of new and existing PICU clinical teams by implementing structured and competency based programmes utilising a whole range of teaching methods. You will also be expected to facilitate our brand new Paediatric Critical Care Society (PCCS) accredited Paediatric Critical Care Programme which launches April 2023

- Responsible for delivering education, training and practice development within the Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU)
- Expected to act as a role model to provide clinical leadership to the nursing and medical team, sharing expert knowledge and supporting in the clinical environment.
- Expected to work in partnership with the Matron and the W&C Education & Practice Development Team being responsible for planning and leading in the implementation of evidence-based, patient-focused practice.
- Expected to provide training programmes for all bands of the clinical teams. Will maintain link with institutes of further learning to ensure the ongoing training of staff.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical skills training and practice development on PICU.
- Liaise with other groups to develop and deliver multi professional and inter-professional education.
- To maintain detailed and accurate records regarding staff education.
- To develop and maintain competency-based training packages for all clinical teams
- Support the concept of continuing professional development through the delivery of relevant programmes of clinical skills training on PICU.
- Expected to be visible and accessible for staff working in the Paediatric Intensive Care Units and work clinically alongside registered and non-registered staff promoting ensuring skills adhere to UHL policies to ensure a workforce ‘fit for purpose’ and ‘fit for practice’

- Appropriate current registration with NMC
- Successful completion of recognised post registration qualification in Paediatric Intensive Care
- A recognised teaching and assessing qualification
- Current APLS provider
- Evidence of on-going, dynamic continuing professional education within Paediatrics
Skills and Abilities

- Appropriate Post Registration experience in Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing and Congenital Cardiac Heart Defects
