Fixed Term Trust Grade Oncology ST3+ (12 months)
Applications are invited for an experienced Clinical/Medical Oncology doctor with at least one year's NHS experience, at CT3/ST3+ level to join our Oncology Department at the University Hospitals of Leicester: a busy teaching hospital offering the full range of Medical and Clinical Oncology services, including nationally renowned services such as PRRT, Stereotactic Radiotherapy and mesothelioma. This post is to backfill both a vacant post and maternity leave cover.
Main duties of the job
This post would ideally suit someone looking to gain additional experience and broaden their CV with a view to applying for a training number in Clinical/Medical Oncology. To that end we will provide you with a Clinical and an Educational Supervisor and support your development and we are confident that we can provide any specialist training needs you may have.
Working for our organisation
As this post has fixed term funding, a current licence to practice and prior UK/NHS experience of at least one year is essential, as is prior Oncology experience.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
There will be ample opportunities to carry our audits and to gain significant experience in clinical trials delivered by one of the nationally leading clinical research team under the HOPE unit.
We are looking for people with a long term interest in Oncology, and in building their skills for the benefit of their patients, the department and their own career.

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration and current licence to practice
- Valid ALS certificate
- Evidence of achievement of CMT1 and 2 competencies in medicine
Desirable criteria
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job
- At least one year's NHS experience
- Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
- Shows aptitude for practical skills required in the job
- Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings
- Willingness to learn new skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical research activity
- Extracurricular activities/achievements relevant to Oncology
- Experience of working in Oncology
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Good written communication skills (oral to be tested at interview)
- Ability to work sensitively within a multicultural community
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors
- Well developed emotional intelligence
- Willingness to work as a member of the team and to share administrative responsibilities
