We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly team to provide support to both the Emergency & Specialist Medicine team and the Inpatient Dispensary. We are a friendly and dedicated team with a passion for delivering excellent patient care.
This split role will enable you to develop both your clinical, and leadership skills
Main duties of the job
Our team aims to provide a high level of clinical expertise to patients. As a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician, your role will be to ascertain patient drug histories and reconciling medicines to ensure our patients receive the correct medicine whilst in our hospitals.
You will also assess patient's own medication, support one stop dispensing and facilitate patient discharge.
You will also support our clinical areas with their pharmacy stock management including controlled drugs and facilitate/complete ward audit.
You will be required to participate in late duty, weekend, on-call and the Bank Holiday rota.
In the inpatient dispensary, your main priorities would be workflow management, staff allocation/supervision, and improvement works

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To co-ordinate medicines supply activity at ward level and to provide effective communication and co-ordination with central dispensaries.
- To be responsible for the supply of items for one-stop dispensing (once clinically checked by pharmacist). This will include generating the order, dispensing and placing in patient's bedside medicine cabinet and endorsing charts as per departmental policy.
- To ensure all patient medication is transferred to the correct ward with the correct patient as necessary.
- To implement and maintain the Patients Own Drug (POD) scheme for the designated area (and self-administration where introduced) according to Trust-wide policies.
- To undertake patient counselling on selected patients and to work with the clinical pharmacist to ensure patients understand their discharge medication.
- Support workflow in the inpatient dispensary
- Deputise in the absence of the Team Leader

Essential criteria
- Registered pharmacy technician with GPHC
- Accredited accuracy checker
Experience
Essential criteria
- Suitable experience of working as a registered pharmacy technician
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working on wards
Communication

- Evidence of communication and working with others
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
