SENIOR SPECIALIST DIETITIAN – Adult Cystic Fibrosis, Adult PCD SECU

NHS AfC: Band 7

We are actively promoting flexible working options, helping you to manage a work / life balance

Job overview

Are you an experienced, passionate and forward thinking Dietitian with an interest in chronic disease, nutritional support and multidisciplinary care?

Are you looking for a clinical leadership opportunity and a new challenge?

This exciting post offers the opportunity to be part of a specialist nutrition and dietetic service to adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF)  0.7 wte and adult Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia patients (PCD) 0.1wte. The post also also includes 0.2 wte inpatient nutrition support to the Surgical Enhanced Care Unit (SECU). These latter two sessions can be flexible in terms of being applied for or not as part of the job plan.

Main duties of the job

You will work as a core and valued multidisciplinary team member providing holistic dietetic consultations and interventions working in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, day case and domiciliary visits on a needs basis. This highly specialist clinical role requires developing expertise in nutritional support, enteral feeding, CF diabetes, CF bone disease, weight management, gastrointestinal dysfunction and pancreatic insufficiency.

You will be the sole dietitian providing the dietetic service to the CF and PCD MDTs and will form part of the growing, friendly and supportive cardio-respiratory dietetic team at the Glenfield Hospital.

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic dietitian with the desire to contribute to quality improvement projects and service development.

The adult cystic fibrosis caseload covers Leicestershire and Coventry patients.  You will lead and continue to develop the dietetic service to the Central England PCD Management service, collaborating with the PCD dietitians within the other national centres.

You will also be responsible for the provision of high quality nutrition support for patients with varying degrees of complexity on SECU.

Experience of working with cystic fibrosis patients is not needed. Clinical expertise in oral and enteral nutrition and experience of working with chronic disease are essential. Strong clinical and communication skills along with advanced motivational and behaviour change skills are required.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
